Hi Oz - I have a 59US and an 89KN pair of JTV guitars. I think I might be able to help you get more out of your JTV as they all have the same guts for the modeling/alt tuning portion.

Firs thing is if you haven't installed Monkey & Workbench, you need to download Monkey, then let Monkey guide you through the Workbench and other JTV software update processes.

If you have already done this, please write back and let me know. I can link you to a couple of patches I've made based on what you're wants or needs are for various tones, tunings, etc.

With the software, the guitar is literally capable of sounding like any other guitar in existence and even guitars that don't or couldn't physically exist in the real world but do on any Variax guitar as I've created over the years since my first Variax back in 2006. All can be done within Workbench with some patience and a bit of knowledge about the terms like...ohm, capacitance, resistance, and how each available pick-up modeled basically works. It might seem like a lot at first, but I promise it is not too difficult to get a good grasp of if you are truly wanting to learn.

Please write back and let me know where you are with the software and we can go from there. Fair enough?

Take care,

Neal

Re: The future of the POD HD platform

I think the answer is staring right at us guys. The answer is Line 6 took all (or certainly a large portion) of their profits from Spider & previous POD sales, plus all other FX stompboxes, etc., and put it all into the development of the new PA system. Any idea why a company that used to produce such a wide variety of products is now compacted down into (5) POD HD units, (3) distinct guitar body models, and two different DT amps? Think back before these units came out and how many products can you think of this company produced and decide if my view is correct or very close to the mark.

I agree with both hollis1003 & phil_m's points of view. None of use know what L6 HQ people think or know, but the ultimate decision about any gear we own is ours to choose. This does not invalidate disappointment in a company making decision we as players/consumers do not understand, but we can walk away at any time. I'm sticking with what I have as I'm not prepared to take the huge financial loss that would occur if I did jump off the Line 6 ship right now.

And it's the older gear plus the new JTV guitars are are really keeping me grounded to Line 6. I was and still am very happy with my Vetta original Vax combination. Happier with the JTV into the Vetta except the Vetta will not work properly with the JTV to change patches, so I HAVE TO USE the HD500 at least from changing patches on the Vetta while changing guitars on the JTV.

I was very upset in the beginning (when the HD500 first came out & I bought one) as we consumers were promised by Line 6 that the JTV guitars would be backwards compatible with ALL VDI equipped gear. Guess they lied, or changed their mind, or one person making the public statements had no idea the developers couldn't, wouldn't, or chose not to make that a reality, and one other possibility - the personnel that started the JTV guts part of the project left the company and others were hired to finish and knew nothing -or told not to worry- about how the previous gear worked so they could at least match the patch changing parameters up to the older gear as all Variax guitars work perfectly with all pre-POD HD units? It's great sales strategy to make units that only work with new gear instead of all gear - right? One or more of these suppositions must be correct if logic is still used these days.

Midi the HD500 to the Vetta and then JTV patch change and Vetta patch change work perfectly together. Plus as bonus, I get whatever sounds I want from the HD500 unit (or HD500 L6 linked to a pair of DT50 112 combos) as well if I want/need them alone or in combination with the Vetta. All the other gear I have is very nice and does what I want, but it's more on the -it's cool I can add this to that- side of things for me rather than really important to my guitar sound side of things.

My thread - I'm done as I've already said.

But after reading your experiences, your opinions, and i believe those should be respected.

You have proof of what you wrote happened between you & Line 6. Perfect - play that card if you feel it's needed for your own reasons.

Your opinions about the reason I started this thread was to get opinions of those with the gear - whatever those opinions and experiences might be. My personal experiences have been much better than what you wrote, but I obviously have a personal problem which I expressed on another thread about this AMS/Line 6 flyer/Ad that makes the statement it does as written as it were fact instead of just an opinion - like...*No other company's gear can do what ours does.* That would be a statement I'd not make any remarks about as every company should believe their products are the best in what they are designed and built to do.

Crusty expressed his opinion of my post - fair enough. And he can like what he likes and even show everyone what the gear is supposed to be able to do well and feel under his control it all does. The majority I doubt feel quite the same way about the Dream Rig. but numbers are private property of Line 6 and will never be made public. I just watch how the company acts, reacts, or keeps silent and make my assessments from the actions in public.

On the other hand you've got someone like Silverhead posting about what rights I have or do not have to repost something posted publicly. Once it's public - it always public and becomes the property of everyone and anyone who reads it, copies it, etc. No copyright on what anyone says on these boards, and so on with the BS as it will continue long after I've stopped posting. For a guy who thinks he is so intelligent, he seems to miss the boat many times. If I had to make a very wild guess I'd think he might one of those people you also think might be a plant by the company just to post positive stuff and make sure not much neg stuff gets too much attention.

And I've use AMS without any problems until I told them that I wanted to pre-order the StageScape M20d Mixer whenever it came out just to try it and keep IF I liked it. From just that one thing all of a sudden I am now on a list with them, zZounds, Sweetwater, SameDayMusic, and Musicians Friend that if I buy something the 30 day or longer satisfaction guarantee return policy no longer applies to me and I have to agree in writing each time I make a purchase. How's that for f-d up?! Tens of thousands of dollars I've spent just in the past four years, and this is how I'm not treated by these companies. Well, there's always more ways than one to skin a cat, or as I prefer to think of it like I've tried to say here...Some people just don't know who they're F-ing with.

Post all ya want on any of my existing threads mrscaryz at least until they are all gone. I appreciate the honesty and very objective opinion of the gear and the claims being made in writing.
