It sounds like your installation's configuration files are messed up - Did you have the Vyzex PocketPOD editor previously installed on your computer?

What OS are you running? Any help I can give will be based on the answer to this question.

It's been brought to my attention in another thread that the M-Audio UNO does not have drivers available more recent than those for OS 10.6.8 - This is unfortunate, but probably only a momentary disconnect as M-Audio transitions between being owned by Avid and being owned by InMusic, who are the parent company of Numark, Akai Professional and Alesis (to name a few).

If anyone is looking for an interface with the latest Mac OS support, my advice is to go with the ones made by Roland.

If you're having issues with an M-Audio UNO interface, the problem is likely the driver: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support&tab=driver

If you UNO is over four years old, it may have a firmware/hardware problem - I recall there was a bad batch released before 2008 and that a firmware update was necessary (which was automatically applied by the driver package).

Hi Motters,

We've covered this quite a bit on other threads, but here are the basics:

All software editors (all of them, not just the Vyzex and Vyzor editors by Psicraft Designs) use two-way SysEx messaging to communicate with hardware instruments.
Unlike note and CC event messages, SysEx messages are more than 2 or 3 bytes long. They can be hundreds or even thousands of bytes in length depending on what information they are carrying.
Budget MIDI interfaces are often only good at relaying messages up to a certain length before they start failing. Really cheap ones can't handle messages longer than 32 bytes long for example.
Because notes and CCs are so short, such budget interfaces appear to be completely reliable for normal sequence data, but exhibit all kinds of problems when required to relay messages between a software editor and a hardware instrument.
At the time of this post (Oct 31, 2012 *happy halloween, everyone*), the USB MIDI interface market has been flooded with cheap USB MIDI cables - Not many of them can handle SysEx reliably.
A number of very high quality USB Audio interfaces have an add-on MIDI port. Surprisingly, these can be comparatively low quality to the audio side of the product and may have the same limitation as a cheap USB to MIDI cable interface. You'll need to check first.

So in answer to your question, here are MIDI interfaces we know to be 100% reliable with our editors:

Roland/Cakewalk/Edirol USB MIDI interfaces with the letters UM in their name.
M-Audio MIDISport and UNO USB-MIDI Interfaces.

Beyond this, it is up to you to use your best judgement and be ready to return any interface that fails to meet the editor's requirements. I will say however do not try using any of the EMU/Creative USB MIDI interfaces with the editor because they simply do not work well with SysEx. Given EMU and Creative's history this is very surprising to hear, but unfortunately it is the truth.

I am sorry, but we've never seen that interface before today - The chances are it is unable to handle the System Exclusive (SysEx) messaging generated by FloorPOD Plus and this is why you are not seeing any connection. Many budget USB MIDI interfaces are really only reliable for passing notes, CCs and other performance events as these are short and simple data - SysEx messages are longer and more complex than this. When a MIDI interface fails to pass SysEx messages, the software cannot communicate with the instrument

You should try a different USB MIDI interface such as any of the Cakewalk UM or M-Audio MidiSport (UNO). These are certified to work with heavy volumes of SysEx information traffic and therefore recommended for use with Vyzex and Vyzor editor software.

What is your MIDI interface make and model? There are a number of these that don't work properly when SysEx messages are passed through them and this prevents the editor from getting the data from the FPP.

Hi Mal,

I'd like to add to David's reply that Psicraft Designs has been maintaining a 'certified' list of MIDI interfaces for use with our Vyzex and Vyzor editors for as long as we've been providing them as bundled and retail software.

Unfortunately, this list is constantly changing so it's an online forum thread at our http://support.vyzor.com site. With regards to putting that content in our documentation, for most of the manufacturers we bundle a software editor to, our mentioning another manufacturer's product on the box or in the manuals is quite problematic: I have had some of our manufacturer partners (not Line 6!) even insist we remove screen capture graphics from our bundled manuals that show rival company USB MIDI driver names listed in the MIDI Ports dialog boxes.

As a general rule, custom driver equipped MIDI devices will work with our editors, and even Windows and Mac class compliant MIDI devices work perfectly well with the Vyzex and Vyzor line of editor software: The Line 6 Pocket POD for example has a built in USB MIDI interface that uses the Windows and Mac class compliant drivers without issues when communicating high volumes of SysEx data to and from Vyzex Pocket POD. Class compliant is really not the issue if you want to run our editors stand-alone (without another app running that wants access to the device too).

The real problem we face these days is one of quality control in the hardware interface market: There has been an explosion in the number of bargain USB MIDI interface cables (the $5 eBay variety) released in the last few years that work for light musical duty (notes, program changes and pitch bends) but can't handle even one longer SysEx message (over 16 bytes long) without dropping bytes. If it's a no-name interface, you should consider it unworthy of connecting an instrument to a software editor.

Secondly, we strongly suggest users employ a dedicated USB MIDI interface: The important word here being "dedicated": If you use an audio interface with a MIDI port added to the back, it will usually not be as reliable for heavy MIDI traffic as a dedicated USB MIDI interface. Corporations tend to focus on only the big stuff these days (not a reflection on Line 6 who are huge on 'total quality') and when the fundamental purpose of the interface is MIDI then they can't cut corners there. If it's an Audio interface, then the audio becomes the main focus and the MIDI only gets a second look when testing for release.

Consequently, we don't recommend anyone that anyone expect their expensive audio interface to also have a top flight MIDI port included in the deal - We've found this is not the case for many of them.

All of this said, your suggestions and positive words are really appreciated - Now that a new generation of retail Vyzor plug-in editors for Line 6 gear is coming we will be sure to put the link to our online interface compatibility list in prominent view of all prospective customers.
