XD-V70 End Cap and Battery Carriage Breakage Issues

I have an XD-V70 mic that has been dropped occasionally. I've seen cracks in the end cap due to this... it also looks like over tightening the end cap could be the cause of the cracks. Since these appear to be prone to cracks I picked up a few end caps. I'm on my third one this year.

On a recent drop, not only did the end cap crack, but the internal battery carriage cracked as well. I spoke with Line 6 Support who directed me to Full Compass where I was able to order spare parts. I ordered an End Cap and a Battery Carriage. The battery carriage was just the part that screws into the top part of the mic- no metal parts, not the top cover that snaps in place over the batteries, no circuit boards, and not the metal end piece that connects one battery to the other. I thought I'd share some issues I ran into regarding the new battery carriage replacement:

1. Hinge retaining pin

This was kind of a pain to transfer from the old carriage to the new one. The shaft is knurled at one end. I lucked out and pushed out the knurled end first so I didn't have to push it all the way through the hinge.

2. Battery end electrical connection

The metal piece that electrically connects one battery to the next needed to be transfered over. This piece has some tiny tabs on it that hold it in place and make it hard to remove. You can't really see these little tabs until you remove the whole piece. In the process of taking this metal piece out the tabs broke off.

3. Round circuit board

There's a round circuit board that has a 2-pin connector that provides the battery connection to the rest of the mic. I took this off the broken battery carriage by removing the two tiny Torx screws. I put the board in place on the new carriage then started to tighten the tiny Torx screws. The screws got about 2/3 of the way in and broke! The heads came right off the screws- both of them! They hadn't even touched the circuit board yet. They were still going into the plastic. This rendered the new battery carriage useless as the screws had broken off in the screw holes with no way to get them out- they're too tiny for a screw extractor or drilling out. ugh.
