My ancient VG-8EX has custom tunings. +/- 12 semitones on each string, IIRC. I think they took this feature out of the latest VG models.

Thanks, I've seen most of the videos in that link and watched quite a few others on YouTube. What I'd like to see is a more in depth interview with the 89F itself. It would be nice to have Sean host and have a noted metal player along to help demo the "shut-up-and-play-your-guitar" part.

- Comparison of different models including a meaty comparison of the magnetic vs high-gain models.

- Palm muting with firmware 1.9.

- Any sonic differences between GraphTech FR and other JTV bridges.

- Tips and techniques for getting the most of out of the 89F.

Sweetwater, here in the US, is, perhaps, the first vendor to get the 89F. I posted about it last week:

It looks like they've shipped their first batch of black ones and are expecting new ones soon. The Blood Red ones are supposed to be in stock next week.

It's good to see some actual playing on the 89F. I wish they'd make a longer "shut-up-and-play-your-guitar" video of a production model so we could hear more of the models and alt. tunings.

StageSource is an interesting solution for those who need both the acoustic models and modeled amps coming from an HD500. It would be good to see a longer video demostrating them with a JTV too. Particularly because not many on the forums have access to a demo guitar of our choice. Especially hooked up to the rest of the Dream Rig and substituting the DT for StageSource for comparison.

The tuners are on the opposite side compared to the regular 89. The Floyd Rose hardware, including tremolo arm look black.

The site says they should ship the week of January 27.

Thanks, I didn't know this, Ade. I don't have an X3L. I wonder if the jack for the Floor Board on my Flextone II will power the JTV? Of course, then I couldn't use the Floor Board.

I'm going to take a look at the JTV-89FR that's going to be announced at NAMM this week. I'll likely give one a try. I think the convenience of the HD500 powering the JTV would be reason enough to get it

Ade, I haven't played a 59 and only demo'd a 69 for a short while when I was on a trip. I think the 69 has slightly smaller frets than the 89. In the product pages here, the 59 & 69 are listed as medium-jumbo while the 89 has jumbo frets.

I agree with Ade though I didn't have problems bending on the 89 I had.

As far as models, they're all the same, except with update 1.9 the JTV-89 has models of its own magnetic pickups in its Custom Bank 1. From what I've read here, eventually those modern high gain models will be available for the other JTVs. I don't think there has been an official announcement of that though.
