+1 for the Best-Tronics cable.
Its a quality cable, not too thin, but not too stiff.
Suck it up and just buy from them, you will be happy with it, and its a good price.

What really works in your favor is the fact that these are hard to find locally in most areas.
Most people are ordering them online. I was willing to buy a used guitar which I could try out first over a new one which had to be mailed to me.

For me, a $1,000 price tag was about the point where the savings became "real enough" to consider buying used.

I bought mine used, locally. Paid $950 I think WITH a Line 6 Spider Jam amp. (In fact, I had just returned the same model which was defective)
I thought that was a great deal, and I actually would have payed $1,000 for JUST the guitar had that been the asking price.
Everything was in flawless condition on the guitar, aside from a crack in the plastic on the 3 way switch. (I got a new one direct from Line 6) The amp had a slight rattle which was repaired easily.

My wife did find your comment amusing also (of course I had to read it to her). Then I think she mumbeled something about me being a dork or something... LOL

I first noticed it by the selector switch at the top of the guitar.
Makes sense though... They have to cover a wide variety of sounds.
I thought I saw a variax last season as well, but I never could get a good view of it.

Yeah, you could think of the DSP in the variax as an "effect" that needs a truly dry uncolored source signal. (the purpose of the piezos is to keep the body of the guitar from adding "flavor" to the sound)
Rubbing the strings, pick noise, etc... they all come through. The tone is just altered by the DSP to make it sound like a specific guitar.
So, really the type of strings and the condition of your strings impact the tone much in the same way they would impact the sound of the modeled guitar.

Its like adding lemonade mix to water, instead of buying pre-mixed lemonade.
If you start with unfiltered city water, your lemonaid is going to still taste like it came out of a swimming pool.

If you use old strings on your variax, the telecaster models should sound like a telecaster with old strings.
If you use 11's on your variax, the LP models should sound like a LP strung with 11's.
The variax "adds" the tone to whatever signal the piezo's pickup, it doesnt trigger digital sound samples.

This made more sense to me after I messed up a firmware upgrade and it deleted all the models... The basic piezo sound still came through, but without the modeling "applied" to it. It just sounded flat and dry. That's when it clicked for me and I understood.

I didnt realize that.

I used to own an ebow, and if you didnt have it pointing right at the pickups it just didnt work.
If it does in fact work on piezo pickups, it may be even more usable with the models than it is on regular magnetics.

Depending on what you are wanting to do, maybe try an Ebow....
Keep in mind though, It probably only works with the magnetic pickups.

I have noticed the Best-Tronics cable I purchased seems get filthy pretty quickly.

It cleans up just fine, but does seem to pickup dirt easily. Maybe the stage was just dirtier than normal...

I dont remember stepping on it much, it just slides around on stage, and picks up ever little bit of dirt it comes into contact with...

Other than that, I have no complaints.

And that hardly sounds like a valid complaint (I throw something on the floor, drag it back and forth, and step on it, and it gets dirty)

Hmmm...
They have apparently deleted the "press release" page, which contained info about the HD update.
Other than on the forums, I can find no mention of this update anywhere on the website.

I am just guessing here, but I bet it is still a long way off...
They may have hit a snag, and realized they released the announcement too soon.

I received my Best-Tronics cable today.
It seems pretty nice. It is heavier than a microphone cable or really cheap instrument cable, but much more flexable than my monster acoustic 1/4" cable. More like a speaker cable as far as flexability.

I think it will be perfect for my needs.

The jacketing reads:

CatSnake (R) by belden-M Brillance(R) 1305A upjacketed tactical UTP cat5e patch cable 4PR24.

The ends are Neutrik brand.

Apparently Best-Tronics and guitar-cable.com are the same company, because the sticker on the cable and included velcro strap are branded guitar-cable.com
