Variax TRS Cable

After, rather foolishly, selling my Variax 700 last year, (unintentionally to a Line 6 UK employee) when it developed a fault, instead of having it repaired, I recently bought a 500 on eBay.

It came in the case with the manual, power supply and the XPS box but no TRS cable. It works fine on batteries.

Although I never had to replace the cable in the 6 years I had my 700, I remember reading it was a standard 15ft TRS cable.

I thought I'll Google Variax TRS cable, which in the UK, yeilds very little. It would appear Planet Waves have discontinued making it.

So, I bought an unbranded but good quality TRS cable.

When I plugged it in and connected the power supply, only the red light came on (the 1/4" light was green). I remember the light should be green.

All my amps are at my rehearsal studio, so I don't know for certain there was no sound but I'm concerned I may have done some damage to the guitar.

Does anyone know why a standard TRS cable (5 metre to be exact) would not power it up properly or know where to get hold of the correct Planet Waves cable, in the UK?

Thanks.

It makes it run correctly. All the stand alone harmonisers tell you to do that.

I know exactly what you're trying to say, I know extremely well how harmonies work and harmonic overtones too but it's not exactly dissonant. Are you telling me that you don't/have never played two notes together, Maj or min third apart, on the guitar and gone into an overdrive?

The most obvious thing to do is to reduce the amount of drive thus reducing the amount of overtones.

The great thing about the M13 is there is no right or wrong way to set the chain up and what works for me, may not for you but sometimes you have to compromise tracking for the tone that you prefer, which I would agree, is the most important thing

I've found they sound better if you use the neck pickup and possibly not having the guitar's volume on full. I don't know if that's because they work better when there is less treble in the inputed signal.

Anyway, give that a go.

HOWEVER, despite being an Mac OSX user, I would not buy an iPad because of exactly that reason, that you can barely do nothing on it, other than as a large iPod Touch. Simple solution, buy a Samsung Galaxy Tablet on Android platform.

Anyway, Line 6 really should have sorted this out now, except for the fact they no longer seem to care about older products. It's their right to do that though and concentrate on the R&D of new products, as can Apple.
