amx is right, the rj45 jack is the first thing to check, the contact wires can easily get bent.

This jack assembly is readily available, and reasonably priced.

Also, remove the jackplate on the guitar, and see if the the connector with the wires attached to it is plugged tight into the back of the jack.

I had that problem.

What does that mean? That Line 6 has confirmed dropping the VAC 700?

You might want to inspect the ribbon cable that goes from the pickups to the pc board. Mine became unplugged when I loosened the board to get more slack in the cables to replace the jack. It came unplugged underneath the pc board.

Careful handling the board, use static precautions.

That really sucks if it's true. My VAC 700 is the perfect gig rig for a weekend warrior like myself. It solves so many problems. If mine were to die or get stolen, I'd want to get another.

Line 6 still has it on the website. Are you certain that it's not just a retailer or 2 that are dropping it?

Correct, nick. I ordered the jack assembly from Sweetwater, they ordered it from Line 6. It took about 2 weeks, and they charged me $15 plus shipping. $11 for the shipping.

Yes, be careful with the contact cleaner, but it can be beneficial. A while back, I had power cutting out, and I sprayed cleaner into the rj 45, and it corrected that problem. Any brand of contact cleaner will do the job.

The reason I replaced the jack asembly is that the release became worn, and made it hard to remove the vdi cable.

Possibly if the bass player ran into you, it could have cracked the assembly and gave you a permanent connection problem. If this is the case, you'll need the new jack assembly.

Not a question, just a comment.

I've seen lots of questions and downright anger on this forum about getting parts. My experience has been a good one.

The cat5 jack on my VAC 700 is getting a little worn, and hard to get the vdi cable out sometimes.

I emailed Sweetwater, they called me back in 1 business day, told me they'd have to order it from Line 6.

It wasn't quick, it took 2 weeks.

But it came, the whole assembly, cat 5 jack , 1/4" jack, jackplate, and all the connectors.

And for only $15!!! (Plus shipping). How can Line 6 sell it, Sweetwater mark it up and resell it for only $15??

Great service form both companies.

The cat 5 cable should power your guitar from the X3.

Remove the jackplate on your guitar and see if the connector behind it is plugged in tight.

I had that problem.

It's AC, so there is no + or -. Either way is fine.

I reflashed my VAC 700 a while back, thru my XTL. I tried it twice, and both times, the factory preset alt tunings were very, very strange. The only one I use is the drop D on the C&W, and this didn't come back up. So I reflashed it rolling back to the old software, which fortunately was available, and got me the old presets back.

Anybody else ever have this trouble?

Yes, it sounds like you are in the right, and have a right to be angry.

Sorry for your bad experience.

My point was that going ballistic rarely if ever helps.
