Re: Re Amping POD HD 500 Question

So if I put the FX Loop in the first block, could I, say, use a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter and the run my M/M 1/8" cable into the mic in of my computer? That's probably fine but I feel the mic in on my PC kinda screws the quality of the track for some reason, whereas the USB sounds great every time. Anyone have any ideas how any of this could be done via the USB? I was thinking a dual tone with one wet and one dry panned hard left and right, and then using that. I usually record with Audacity, so I would need to find out how to split those two tracks and make each into a mono wet/dry track. Any ideas there would be appreciated as well.

Re Amping POD HD 500 Question

Ok, a quick question to all my recording gurus out on the forums...

I want to re-amp a guitar track using my POD HD 500 and I think I have a method to do it, but, I would like to hear the processed signal while recording a dry track. Any ideas? (I figured this question could also help those looking into re-amping, so if you have techniques or methods, feel free to share those as well.)

Thanks,

Big C

Re: HD 500-Anybody made any good tones that use the guitar and mic inputs simultaneously?

Assuming you are using the XLR in for vocals, this is a fairly simple process. I've been working on my Dual Tone patch for a while (a guitar and a vocal tone) and the results I've gotten so far have been a little disappointing. But, that's not to say all is lost for you. To access the Dual Tone abilities of the HD 500, you move the cursor over to the amp part of your signal chain, and move the amp "up." You should now see the original amp icon as well as a smaller amp icon that is black. Move the cursor to the black amp icon and select the amp you would like to use. (Personally for my vocals, I have found the AC-30TB, the Hiwatt 100, and the Gibtone models work well, but feel free to experiment!) To get your mic to sound through the amp, go to the system I/O page on your POD and change the channel you are using for vocals (ex: the "bottom" amp....so tone 2) and change the input from the "Same" (assuming it is on the default) and changing it to the "Mic" setting. Now, you can change the amp settings to your liking, and play with EQ's Reverbs, Compressors, Distortions, etc., to your liking. (Note: to place, for example, the compressor in the Mic amp's signal chain, use the move button and drag the compressor so that it lines up with only the bottom amp in pre or post, depending on what you want to do...once again, experiment!)

Notes:

I almost always use the compressor (usually more than one, I like the Red Comp model best for this) for my vocal signal chain, since the HD 500 to date lacks dedicated mic pre-amps, and I almost always keep the amp volume on 100%.

Experiment with not only amp models, but mic and cab models to really shape your sound. (Try the J-45 through the 112 Field Coil into a 87 Condenser or one of the ribbon or dynamic mics.)

Try different vocal mics too! I love my SM-58 to bits, but I have one garage sale quality mic that works wonders with certain amp models.

Happy Tweaking!

-Big C

I really need someone to help me here...

Ok, by no means am I a newbie to all the digital amplifiers/Line 6 products, but I recently purchased a POD X3 Live. Don't get me wrong, so far I love this thing to death, and I would never trade up to the newer model (which we all know is in the works) unless there is some kind of insane imporvement that I just have to have.

So, my question to all you is this:

I got the Gearbox thing, and I have the POD X3 Live.

I have it hooked to my computer via the supplied USB.

I have the flash memory updated to 2.01 and all the other latest updates (which I have forgotten and cannot check because I am posting this while at school).

But, when I hook it up it keeps telling me "this tone requires you to update your POD to version 2.00 or higher" or something to that effect.

And also, how do I hear the tones?

When I try and play the track at the bottom I cannot hear anything, and when I play my guitar I don't hear anything coming from the computer speakers.

Thanks,

Cameron.
