I totally get what you're saying. The problem is just having too many damn options. I don't even have a JTV (I think my head would explode) and I still suffer from this problem. I've used two methods to cope: 1) Just mentally eliminate most of the amp models from even being an option. I only allow myself to use the Tread, Blackface, and AC30, except where option 2 applies. 2) Download a bunch of tones from CustomTone, find ones I like out of the box, maybe tweak ever so slightly, and live with it.

It does make me miss the good ol' days a little. You have an amp, maybe a pedal or two, and you have to do the best you can with what you've got. I've actually gone back to playing mostly acoustic for the past few weeks just to take a break from it.

I'm having a very similar issue with my HD300. It's pretty infrequent, but it will take me to either a different preset or to 1A but without the actual preset loaded (it just says "User Preset").

Just had this happen again, this time I'm using a power conditioner. I wasn't changing presets this time...the thing just suddenly dropped out and started humming. Changed presets, messed with the master volume and all the sound dropped out. This time I didn't power cycle it and after a few seconds the preset sound came back (it actually faded back in). Really weird...starting to wonder if I should take it back and get a different one. Wouldn't want this to happen in the middle of a take, or live.

Blank user preset when exiting tuner?

Occassionally, when I tap the switch to exit the tuner on my HD300 I am taken to preset 1A with a label that just says "User preset" (or something similar, can't remember exactly). If I change presets and change back to 1A the normal preset with it's normal label is there. I've also had the tuner exit to the preset next to the one I was on when entering the tuner (ie. on preset 1C when entering tuner, on 1D when exiting).

Has anyone else seen this type of behavior?

I had something sort of similar happen the other night with my HD300. I changed presets and it started making a loud humming sound...not quite the same sound you're describing but in the ballpark. No sound from the guitar at all...just the weird noise. I could still change presets but the noise remained. I unplugged the POD and then plugged it back in and it was fine...haven't had the problem since. My assumption is that it was a power issue or maybe just a random crash...I'm going to pick up a Fuhrman power conditioner outlet strip to hopefully avoid future occurrences.

Maybe it was the solar flares .

I was debating the same two models. I ended up springing the extra $$ for the HD300. I think it's well worth it. If you get the floor pod plus and then change your mind in 6 months, it's going to cost you a lot more than just taking the hit now and getting the HD.

I had something similar happen last week and it was driving me nuts...thought my POD was hosed. It was my stupid iPod cable connected to the MP3 jack.
