Well since it was advertised along with new JTV89F in Musician Friends latest catalog (Feb) I imagine they expected to have it ready to go along with the 89F's release, so I don't think it's going to be a long wait unless some show stopper bug was found.

No, I don't think my 700 sounds any better than my JTV59, except for maybe the electric 12 strings, but they weren't that great on the 700 either. I like the new acoustic models better than the 700 or original JTV's. I will say the Lester bridge model to me possbily sounded better on my 700, but with my JTV I usually use the mag p/u whenever I want the LP sound and prefer it over the 700 or JTV model.

You are probably just hearing the standard tuned strings along with the alt tuning. With an HD500 you may also have the unit set to both mag's on 1 channel and on the other model. For the former you'll need to turn up the volume of your amp loud enough to drown out the strings, or use headphones, for the latter I'll defer to some one who has an HD500 and knows how to set it up.

I doubt it's that easy, if it were you could do it yourself by just saving the v1.71 acoustics in workbench and then loading them into the custom bank after updating. More likely the algorithm for the acoustics has been updated such that simply having the v1.71 acoustic definitions would not sound the same after going thru the new algorithm.

Simbo, the tone knob when using the acoustic models is more a mic' poistion knob than a tone knob.

I haven't done any recording yet with v1.8 acoustics, but I do kind of wonder if some of the models are going to sound small in a mix for lack of a better word. With the previous models you could always roll off bottom end and notch boominess out, but you can't put back what isn't there to begin with in the case of the new models. I do still think they sound much more realistic though than the previous models, just that they sound like they've already been eq'd to the point it may be difficult to get them to stand out in a mix.

Guess just have to wait and see how they sound when I start recording and mixing.

I agree for the electric 12 strings, but the acoustic ones sound pretty good to me. The electric 12 strings though IMO need more help than just retuning the octave strings, with all extra DSP power of the JTV's I was really expecting better for the 12 string models. Personally I don't want to use Workbench to adjust the 12 strings, they should be done properly to begin with and considering how many have complained about them I'm surprised they didn't adjust them for v1.8.

That's sounding better with the EQ removed Sonny1096, the new models definitley don't need the same type of EQ the old ones did which were pretty boomy.

I went ahead and loaded up v1.8 on my JTV59 and spent some time with the acoustic's today and overall I'd say they do sound better, more like a real acoustic. Now if they'd just do a 2nd gen on the 12 string electrics.

Well, if that's the way the new one's sound I won't be installing the update. They all sound worse to me, unless it's the eq'ing you did on them.
