Re: Will the M20D App work in the background

My M20d it does not take 3 seconds to reconnect it's more like 6 to 10. and that's a helluva lot of time in a Live emergency situation. I have a lot of other apps on my iPad that run in the background, so in my humble opinion, this should be possible. So ye Gods of making cool and functional gear, hop to it, sort it and give us an update ASAP, please. That would make for some really appreciate customers, musicians and live engineers - and would also be in line with Line6 stated philosophy re the purpose of the M20d. It's early days yet and I'm loving my m20d so far except for this and two other issues.

So looking forward with bated and slightly marijuana-tinged breath.

Dreadlocks

Hi Andy,

Thanx for some official no bs Line 6 reply. No need to sell us on how great the mixer is, man - We owners coughed up more than two grand for the device - so that's like preaching to the choir. No one jumps up and buys so a revolutionary concept device (which I had been dreaming about for years) without being crazy or believing in the company (or both). Line6 users are pretty much guys like yourselves - modern revolutionary dreamers who are not locked in the "Only the musical devices invented by our grandparents are any good" paradigm. You guys are our other half. You create the toys we dream of, and yeah we love you for that. But! - in this instance! Your AD guys quite simply F***ed up. The way you just fessed up and explained exactly the M20ds capabilities, and limitations should have been in the fancy ads, video tutorials and manuals. If Line6 had done that maybe I would have opted for the Presonus StudioLive or Mackie dl1608 which I was contemplating before my favourite company presented The Alternative. Or maybe I would still buy the M20d, cause I'm a real sucker for your stuff, and there's a lot to love about the M20d. But it would have been a very informed decision. As it was I didn't have all the facts when opting for the M20d.

Currently it's set up in my studio with my stagesource speakers. I am mixing my live show in Cubase 6.5 via Presonus Audiobox 1818vsl to M20d/Stagesource. Wanna make sure that when I hit the road all is balanced and sounding awesome. At first I wanted to do it without the Presonus in between and that's when I discovered the latency. So now I'm doing it your way (which I had figured out before) but it really surprised me that the Gods (and My Heroes) of Line6 Monkey, easy online connectivity and updates, All Pods cool, great Asio drivers, etc etc could have made the shittiest Asio driver on the Planet since the default windows cubase duplex crap. This I certainly did not expect from Line 6 and most certainly not in their most modern awesome, and much trumpeted creation - the M20d. We all thought something was terribly amiss because the info you just gave, was not provided in the way you just did: clearly and honestly - for which we thank you, even if it's late in the game. Your AD department should register that - even in the fine print, man. We users kinda prefer ALL the facts to the glitz and hype. Kinda let us respect and trust the company more, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, now you know what we users would like for the M20d (see also the wishlist threads), so if it's at all possible in the future we'd really like that. And really nuff respect for some official honest explanation and clarification.

(Naw, I'm not ****** off because you guys won't come to your senses and make some new Lefty Variaxes and I'm stuck here with my two old 500s, lusting after the new awesome JTVs, and feeling brushed off and dissed. That's a separate thread and issue. hmm)

Most Annoying. I'd like to be able to switch between my V Control App (for Ableton Live) and the SS App. Everytime I switch from V Control I have to reconnect SS. This of course, will not do for live performance - I need instant access to my mixer in the event that I need to pull down a fader or tweak something on the fly. Waiting a couple seconds to reconnect the SS app makes me unable to multitask.

The suggestion above of another ipad is really not the best solution to the problem. The solution is for Line 6 to programme the app so it can run in the background when using another and be able to immediately recall and use it.

I hope Line 6 addresses this soon.

Hooked it up with L6 to stagesource S and T. Sounds good. Decided to use it as an audio interface with Cubase 6.5 and downloaded the latest driver. Now I have an input latency of 525.964 ms. Output latency is 560.612 ms. Checked the control panel: default buffer size is 256, bit depth is 24 bit. in the bottom half of the driver control panel where it reads "ToneDirect & USB audio streaming" the buffer size is the middle between "Extra" and "Medium." I tried setting a lower buffer size and changed the bit depth but was rewarded with white noise and crackles and pops. Doing this also does not reduce the Latency readings in the "ASIO StageScape M20d" Cubase Device Setup window.

I am a big user of Line 6 gear, from Variax, to the toneports, kb 37, pod xt, x3, and the pod HD 500. I have NEVER experienced anything like this with a driver.

My desktop cpu is intel i7 975 extreme, with 12 gig rams, asus pt6 motherboard and very fast ssd drive. It works like a dream and this is the first time I've ever had any audio interface issues. Currently the only line 6 drivers on my pc are the m20d and the pod hd 500. I'm stating all of this to give an overview of my gear so that maybe somebody can help me figure out quite quickly what is wrong, and find a fix. Anybody with similar issues?
POD HD500 and Roland GR-55 EXP2 Midi Assign problem. Help!

Hi, I'm using my POD HD 500 to control my Roland GR-55 synth. Midi out HD to Midi in GR-55. If I need to sustain, say, a piano sound I have to assign the sustain command to the CTL pedal on the GR-55. The CTL pedal is good for many things but a sustain pedal is not one of them. It's very uncomfortable and awkward. (I also play the piano so I know what I'm talking about). There is no option to plug in an extra pedal in the GR-55. I figured maybe I could plug a sustain pedal in the EXP2 slot on the HD 500, however this is not working. After assigning the midi channel in the MIDI ASSIGN section (I'm using the software Editor) the midi channel always reverts to "Base" once the pedal is pressed.

Program Change commands work perfectly, so I know both devices are talking to one another. My sustain pedal is also okay because it works if assigned to an FX and the green button (to the right of the looper knob) also lights up when pressed.

This is important to me because I'm setting up my gear in a two-tiered way with the pod at the bottom, and I want to control everything from the pod. If I can't use an external pedal then I will be forced to place both units side-by-side(too much space) and go the uncomfortable route of stressing myself out with Rolands awful CTL pedal/sustain pedal option. Help Anyone?!

Hi, I don't have the Roland GR-20 Synth but I do have the new Roland GR-55 as well as the HD 500, so maybe there are enough similarities for my anwser to be useful. My guitar is a variax 500 with an additional GK3 pickup attached for the GR-55. My HD500 could be regarded as my master controller, as it controls all the presets in the variax as well as take care of changing the presets in the GR-55. Cable connections: Variax cable out from guitar into Pod HD500. Midi cable out from HD 500 to Roland GR-55.

The GR sounds really awesome and I only have three problems with it. 1. You can't use it as an external soundmodule. 2. Bank change sucks. No quick way to move from say, bank 1 to bank 10. . It is not possible (like with the HD500) to scroll to a new bank and then while playing and then selecting the new tone just when required. 3. No extra pedal (like a sustain pedal) can be connected. There is a control pedal but this is really uncomfortable when you're using it as a sustain pedal for say, piano sounds. Apart from this it is really a dream machine and the tracking is absolutely amazing.

Using the HD 500 as controller solves some of the problems. In any single patch (preset) in the HD you can control up to four different presets on the Roland Synth. FS1, FS2. FS3 and FS4 can all be assigned diffferent programme change numbers. This means I can setup a preset called, for example, Latin Kit on the HD500. Now using FS1 to 4 I can switch from trumpet to piano to Vibes to whatever, because pressing each footswitch selects a different instrument. This info is of course stored in the HD500 preset.

Pod HD also has a second pedal option which I've currently connected a sustain pedal with which I'm trying to "talk" to the Roland but it hasn't worked yet. Hopefully I'll sort that out today, and if/ when I do I'll post an update. There are a couple of other really cool things about this combination but as they only relate to the GR-55 and not the GR.20, I don't think you are interested in that. I hope this helps.

1 love.

Here, scroll and select Programme Change. This activates the PROGRAM # window (2nd column below the Bank Window)

5. Double click or scroll and enter the PG number of choice.

Repeat this process with FS2, etc.

Note: I also set the basic midi channel of my synth to 02. My reason for doing this is because Midi Channel 01 is the default channel for both HD 500 and the GR-55. This leads to automatic program change of my GR-55 whenever I select a different preset on the HD 500. By changing the GR-55's basic channel to 2, the GR-55 doesn't change presets unless I press one of my FS1-4 switches. I'm sorry I can't advise you re the X3 Live. I sold mine to get the HD and when I had it I didn't use it with my other AXON synth. Hope this helps.
