Inconsistent volume/volume drop with DT50 and HD500 combo

I've got an issue with my POD HD500 / DT50 rig that drives me nuts sometimes. Hopefully some others have run into this problem before and can shed some light...

Sometimes when switching presets on the HD500, the volume through the amp will drop significantly. The volume stays at this reduced level until I power the DT50 off and back on, but sometimes it takes a couple of power cycles before the volume comes back. When it does this and the volume drops, I will literally have to have the volume knob 3/4 of the way up to obtain a reasonable playing level (with the knob in the "low power" position. Even if I push the knob in, I have to turn it up much more than I normally would, so the issue isn't limited to the volume knob being in the pulled out position.

It's almost as if something in the amp gets "stuck" when whatever analog components are switched over when the HD500 presets are changed. This issue isn't limited to certain presets, either, as it seems to just happen randomly. Occasionally switching presets will cause the output to go dead silent, and again it takes a power cycle (or two) of the amp to get things back.

I've had the HD500 and the DT50 for nearly two years now, and it's had this issue all along. Now that I'm starting to play outside of the bedroom more, it's quickly becoming much more of a nuisance. I know I should have probably immediatly returned the amp or taken it in for service while it was under warranty, but I never did obviously. I guess I kept hoping that a future firmware update (both the DT50 and the HD500 are both loaded with the latest firmware, by the way), but now I guess I'm stuck with it.

Anyway, has anyone else experienced similar issues? I did do a search on here, but didn't find anything like what I'm experiencing...

Also, on the "compare" page here: http://line6.com/pod/compare.html it lists "Factory Presets," and shows 512 for the HD500 (and 256 for the HD300/HD400).

I do have to disagree about the presets... I just copied/pasted this from the Line 6 HD500 model information page:

Presets your thing? POD HD multi-effect pedals have them in spades. POD HD300 and POD HD400 feature 256 factory presets, and POD HD500 comes stock with the extended collection: 512! Scroll the factory presets until you find what you need, tweak if necessary, and save up to 128 of your own user presets.

Anyway, I greatly appreciate the setlist you created for me. I will give it a go and have some fun with it.

HD500 presets - how many?

I just picked up an HD500 yesterday afternoon. I was able to play around with it a little tonight, but I'm a bit confused. All the literature/advertisements I have seen claim that the HD500 has 512 factory presets (instead of the 256 presets on the HD300/HD400).

All I see on mine are four factory setlists, each with 16 banks of 4 presets each. That's only 256. Where are the other 256? Granted, I haven't been able to thoroughly familiarize myself with the HD500 too much yet, but I don't know where else the factory presets would be.

There are a couple of tones on the demo page (http://line6.com/podhd/sounds.html) for the Pod HD's that I really liked, but some of them appear to be part of the missing 256 I don't have.

Well... I think the culprit is the XLR cable... There is no continuity between pin one one the amp end and the Pod end, so I will go back to the music store tomorrow and swap it out with another (and test the continuity before I leave the parking lot ).

I wish that was it... The knobs are not at zero.

I do not have an extra XLR cable, just the one I purchased today along with the Pod, so I can't test to see if the cable is defective.

Just got my Pod HD500 and DT50 2x12 amp today. When I plug the guitar directly into the amp's front panel, everything is fine. All the features on the amp seem to work well and it sounds great.

When I plug in the HD500 using the L6 Link and XLR cable, and the guitar plugged into the Guitar In jack on the HD500, I get nothing at all. It seems as if the L6 Link interface on the amp itself isn't working.

Am I overlooking something simple, or is something wrong? I just spent $2000 and can't enjoy this new setup yet...
