I place a great value on the advice/expertise of many folks that provide input on this forum, regardless of the "Expert User" status. I've been helped tremendously by users with less than 10 posts, Expert Users with over 5,000 posts, Line 6 Employees, and everyone in between. The oposite has also been true. I've seen condescending and/or "I don't care about your problem" responses by people in every category as well.

While I can understand your frustration, I hope you "take a deep breath", "count to ten", "sleep on it" (whatever it takes), and return. I value your input, even if you never have "Expert User" next to your name, and hope you stay a part of the community.

Re: Variax loop acoustic patch: Who does it work

However, there's a recent Sean Halley video showing exactly how to take advantage of running two discreet paths, one to the PA with acoustic, one to the DT25, and with choices of using one or both together. It's an excellent five minute video that should help answer questions on how to set up patches like this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6cpKqaJDwg&feature=youtu.be

Hope this helps,

Jon

Re: Future of Line 6 and POD HD line

I don't think you'll **** many people off, but it seems like your addressing two different aspects of the company; them answering questions regarding product development in a timely manner, and the choices made on what types/costs of processors they use to pair with the DT series amps. This makes it difficult to weigh in on whether or not to agree with your post.

Is Line 6 a competitive company? My opinion is that they're VERY competetive. I think the Fractal unit sounds fantastic, but to be honest I believe the HD500/DT25 combination sounds better than the Fractal with any tube amp or FRFR solution I've tried (and I've tried several). I also tried the HD500 with several FRFR units out there and to be honest it never worked for me either. I've been a "tube amp and pedal board" type of guy for at least the last ten years, but I still have tried every combination of modeller out there during that time frame, hoping for something I like just as well. The HD500/DT25 is the closest thing I've come to replacing the normal tube rigs I own. You can get that combination of gear (using the DT25 combo) for less than $1,300 on sale, and the Fractal with foot controller costs roughly $3,350 (and that's before any sort of speaker/amp solution). This means that Line6 only costs about 33% of the price of Fractal with the same capability. I'd also lay odds that Line6 sells about 5 times as many units as Fractal.

If you do the math, it makes it clear that Line6 is making a very strategic (and in my opinion very logical) choice in how they market their products. I'm not saying you're wrong in your opinions. Im just saying it's an "apples to oranges" conversation that can never be resolved because it's comparing two entirely diffently company business models.

I had this exact issue, and it was the tubes. I don't know if it's something that's happening with shipping/handling, or if it's simply that the Line6 factory is using batches of tubes with a really high failure rate. For me it happened intermittently as soon as the unit was unboxed, and just got worse over the next two weeks.

My supplier sent new tubes, no questions asked, and the unit's been rock solid since then. If you have a couple of known-good EL84s to swap out you should be able to see if it's tube related very quickly. (Reseating the tubes did absolutely nothing for my problem).

The unit's VERY easy to bias, once you swap tubes, and there is a thread that tells exactly how to do it if you do a search.

Best of luck!

It eventually started sounding like radio interference (loud crackling, etc.). The store I bought it from sent new tubes, no questions asked, and now it's dead quiet and sounds great. With the MV all the way down, and nothing connected, you should be hard pressed to hear any noise at all.

I've purchased three different bags for the HD500, and the absolute best I've found is the SKB SC-2111. It's not "pretty good, but a little snug, with strain on the zippers". It's not "a little big but leaves plenty of room for cables and expressions pedals". It's quite simply a perfect fit. The HD500 drops right in, without being snug or loose, and has plenty of padding all the way around, and for ~$50.00. All others have been a little disappointing to me.

If it's available in your area, I'd say get one.

I've used both old/new versions of the Atomic, and while it worked ok with the several versions of POD I used it with, including the HD500, I still ended up taking tube-amp/pedalboard when playing live. I've tried using the HD500 with several standard tube amps, and while for many it's a great "go to" rig I was never able to make it sound like I wanted (and that was using Splawn, Mesa, and Mojave amps). I've also used semi-FRFR PA speakers (QSC and JBL) to use for stage volume, and while this was ok at lower volume it just had NO "amp" experience for me at any sort of higher volume.

Then I ordered a DT25, and it just works great! Dead-easy to set up, and obviously designed for use with the HD series devices. I have the head version, and have used it with several different cab combinations. This includes an open-back 2x12 Mojave cabinet, so it should be good to go as the combo version. I'll be ordering a combo shortly, just so all I have to take back and forth to rehearsal spaces is the HD500/guitar. Speaker-emulated output direct to PA when needed, and works as advertised, while using the amp for stage volume.

Put it this way, for gigs I'm seriously considering taking two DT25 combos and two HD500s for the ultimate "fail resistant" compact rig.

Trust me, you didn't waste the money.

I've made many Line6 purchases, some I've been more happy with than others. For the most part the HD500 has worked out great, and is getting even better every few months. I, and several others, had problems 10 months ago with the combination of the device drivers in combination with Mac 10.5.8 in 32-bit mode. I don't remember any official response from Line6 admitting problems, and there were several responses stating there must be a problem with my computer, but the problem ended up being fixed in the next driver update. In the meantime I temporarily rolled back drivers/firmware to a combination that happened to work with my computer, until the fix was released.

Is the problem rate associated with Line6 software/hardware less than or greater than 1%, who knows? Most of us only really care if something bad happens to their configuration, and there could be a large percentage of users that just live with their problems without reporting them. You could look through my posts and see one of my responses saying how Line6 was working perfectly for me and almost everybody else, and then once I started having problems you can see some posts of me asking why Line6 wasn't responding to my problems quickly enough.

What I've learned is that I'm going to have good days and bad days with Line6 products, but that if I'm patient enough I'll almost almost always get my money's worth. My current combination of HD500/DT25 sounds amazing, and definitely not a waste of money. Talk to me on a bad day, when I'm having technical problems with it, and I might answer differently. However, once the problems are fixed I'll change back.

I own both the HD500 and the Eleven Rack.

I bought the Eleven Rack I thought it sounded pretty good through studio monitors, but no matter how much I tried I could never seem to get rid of the "modeler" sound. Yeah, it seemed to have less "fizz", harshness, whatever you want to call it, but it always felt like it accomplished that by using some sort of EQing that left out frequencies I wanted to hear. Closer to hearing an amp in a different room, instead of right next to you.

I bought the HD500 and was instantly impressed by, and drawn to, the Park 75 model. It put a smile on my face and made me want to keep playing and recording ideas. I still have several tube amps (Splawn, Mesa, Laney), and for live work they're awesome. For now though I'm using a HD500 with a powered PA monitor, which still sounds great and is simple and light.

Every couple weeks I turn on my Eleven Rack for ~30 minutes, thinking I'll get it to sound better than the HD500 (which I can't). Then I turn it off and play for a few hours on the HD500. Don't get me wrong. I still think the 11R has great potential and don't plan on selling it any time soon. I respect the opinion of other posters that say they like the 11R better, and I wish the HD500 had many of the internal features that the 11R has. Maybe the other 11R owners are just better at dialing in a sound they prefer on the 11R, and I'm better at dialing in a sound I prefer on the HD500. I always think it's better to make a purchase decision based on how happy you are with the tones you hear, rather than analyzing specifications or following others' opinions.
