If the tubes are original I would say change em, you might need to take it to a tech, It could be bad connection in the tube sockets, cold solder joints, or bad speaker output connections, Assuming your bias is set correctly and your using the proper speaker ohm match, A tube amp is like a good old muscle car, you have to maintain it, but it is worth it!

Agreed, I play my SV combo out and find that it cuts really good, my SV halfestack sits at home mostly for my own entertainment to blast out some Marshall tone or Boogie Rec tones just to get my kicks.

Correction on the effects loop answer, That would be power amp in input jack.

Yes, it is possible to bypass the preamp and use the amp as a power amp only, I am pretty sure you just plug your external preamp into the return jack of the effects loop on the back.

And no I have not tried an acoustic through it but it might not sound too bad on clean with some of the internal effects.

The main things that would concern me with any kind of blowing fuses are, incorrect bias, incorrect Ohms match of head and cab, bad or wrong speaker cable, tube age, or unmatched tubes. The tech you took it to the first time should be a liscensed line 6 repair shop or a at least a credable tube amp repair shop, and they should have checked those things out, If in fact all those things were addressed, the problem could be on the board itself.

The Spider IV is a stereo amp and sounds really great for home and studio, but if you are playing with a band at loud volumes I would suggest going with the Spider valve for the tubes, If you can get them both you would be very happy!

With the midi hookup, Has any one ever figured out the volume problem with using two mkII's and one shortboard? The volume pedal just does not seem to work right.

I had a peavey amp with built in effects that did the same thing, turned out that it was a common problem with the memory battery, it was a little old and it leaked battery acid on the dsp board, basically taking out the board, don't know if that is any help or not just thougt I'd throw that out there.

I have a 212 and the I have been going back and forth with the updates, and the conclusion that I came up with is that the 2.0 update sounds better if you are playing loud like with a band, 1.17 sounds great at low volumes with a lot of bass but when you get loud it can get boomy and really scooped, and I agree, download the tones and tweek em.
