I'm not sure if it's related, but maybe you need to manually remove the .bom files for the driver in the receips folder, as i explained here:

I would deinstall everything, then manually remove everthing with com.line6. in that folder (there should be nothing left if it worked properly) and try to (re)install everything, if you don't have a working driver right now, ..

To tonal topic, sure, it might sound different, but it will sound different for you anyways, regardless of the amp state, because no one knows what output method was used by the author if you download a preset. Since i've got the HD Desktop and use headphones most presets have a way to less bass for my taste. And that might result from my output device. So i mean, interchanging presets is a nice feature, but you'll most likely have to manaully fine tune them anyways.

I'm not sure, what you mean by "it will work fine". It will certainly not keep your settings if you switch from a Pre to a Full Amp or vice versa if you changed the settings (i.e. you've loaded a preset). Somehow, for me, it always fetches the settings for a specific amp i've had upon booting the device. Just try it, for me, it works somehow, but certainly not nice. Maybe it is different on the HD 500, i don't know.

So, if you run into the same problems, you can tryout to set the pre amp to a full amp directly in the preset using my tool (or vice versa): http://www.jzab.de/content/pod-hd

Oops, my bad, sorry. I didn't mean to misinform you, it's certainly 32 characters long. The 16 bytes were just for the HD 300/400.

So, the Tap Tempo is stored in the setlists files for HD 500/Desktop/Pro (.hxs) at 0xDB8 - 0xDBB, so 4 bytes as a 32-bit floating point number. I've just checked it with tap tempo 30, and the result was 0x41F00000, whichs fits.

Then it recurs all 0x1028 bytes. So:

1. 0xDB8 -- 0xDBB

2. 0x1DE0 -- 0x1DE4

3. ..

64. ..

I've just written my exam today, so i've some free time to write some "documentation" about my findings, .. just in case you want to add some more.

I guess he did the same as me did, and you already started too: Figure it out on your own.

If you don't want to do all that stupid stuff again, i can send you everything i know about the file formats. I wanted to gpl my pod hd tool anyways.

But since you already know where the single presets start in the setlist, there should be a 16 byte long string that defines the name. Should be straightforward to extract it with your knowledge then.

You might check if the latest firmware is installed on your POD HD 500 (v2.1) under Settings that comes with 5 new Amp models. You can also run the monkey software with your connected device to check for it. You can download it here : http://line6.com/software/

That should be all that might differ.

You can also rename them on your device directly. For me, on my POD HD Desktop, i have to press down the Presets knob (dial), so that you are in the Setlists Overview. Select your desired Setlist and press the Save button now. You can rename it.

It's also covered on page 4-2 in the manual (POD HD Desktop - Working with Set Lists).

For files for the HD Pro (presets, bundles, setlists), you can mostly simple rename the file extension. If you should find one that does nor work, you can try out my tool: http://www.jzab.de/content/pod-hd

What setlists get renamed? Are those already on your POD HD or did you try to load/open them? Did you also update your POD HD Edit software (2.21 is latest version)?

I think if those invaild presets are already on your POD and you want to keep them, you could try an older version, i would suggest v1.06 from the EDIT Software (because they "fixed" the invaild data after that particular version[1]) with your current firmware. Then save them (as Setlits or bundle) and send them to me (or upload them somewhere)! I'd like to see if i can modify them to get loaded with a newer software version.

If you don't care about the your settings within that presets, i would not care much. It should not happend again. I really depends on your former software version.

POD HD Edit v1.08 RELEASE NOTES
Bug Fixes
This update addresses a bug which allows invalid data to be introduced to presets. The invalid data is caused by asynchronous communication between the POD HD hardware device and the POD HD Edit software application. In rare instances recalling presets containing invalid data may cause intermittent high volume events.
Installing POD HD firmware v1.43 POD and HD Edit v1.08 prevents invalid data from being introduced into presets. During synchronization between POD HD and POD HD Edit, the hardware displays a “Sync In Progress” message and does not respond to any buttons or knobs until synchronization is complete.

Additionally any presets which contain invalid data are reset to an initialized state. These presets are easily identified as “New Tone (Reset)”.

ah, okay. That sentence is a bit wired, i agree. If you want to open the Finder Window from the Terminal, you have to add a open before the path, so enter:

open /private/var/db/receipts/

Either use this, or i think easier to do, if you never used the terminal to modify files, you can better directly use the finder with the "Go to Folder"-Option and enter it there.
