Re: JTV 59 starts to deliver what I was looking for ...

Good posts here... I got my JTV-59 TSB last June... after all the switching issues were fixed (about a 3 week period), I immediately brought it to my luthier... frets too high, setup, etc... aside from lowering the action as much as possible, they said it was a pretty darn good guitar... no intonation problems that I have noticed... I have had NO problems since and use it at gigs ALL the time... NO PROBLEMS... the ability to change tunings on the fly is fantastic. I see a lot of suggestions for the variax models on the forum and a lot of them are good.... for me, I would have liked a thinner neck, but I have adapted to this one and still use one other guitar for the floyd rose... My thoughts on what they should have done besides minimizing the switching issues last year are there should have been a hard shell case option like the one that comes with the USA version... I don't know about you others, but I don't believe in carrying a guitar in a "gig bag".... no way... I got a Gator case that has worked pretty well... Bought it at same time as guitar after discussing it with my Sweetwater rep as to which one would be best fit.... seems like people have fine tuned that since then, but mine does work....

Re: Still Need Alt Tuning Knob!!

Since I signed up for this forum, I have read too many problems with the switch primarily and then some with the knobs.... I ordered my JTV-59 TSB in December. When a Black JTV-59 was offered in January, I took it. Within a couple of hours, the switch acted up as described so many times in these forums. I sent it back and since the Tobacco Sunburst was due in "a couple of weeks", I told my sales rep. that at this point I would just wait for my preferred color. Well, that turned out to be June instead of January. While I was waiting, I was reading about all the other people with the switch problem. I would have figured by my June delivery, it would have been fixed... NOT! Within the first hour AGAIN, the switch stopped working... Tried it again the next day and it worked for about 20 minutes... I had to send it to California (I'm in Atlanta), but here's where it gets better... I had it back in about 2 weeks and since then, it seems to be holding up... I love the look of the guitar... Mag pickups are fine. I DID have to have a setup done because the action was too high, but oh well... So, for about 2 1/2 months all has been well... I really got the guitar for the tunings, not so much the modeling. I do like the acoustic models, but really don't hear much of a difference on the other models... If I did, I would probably use them more... Whether or not they are working correctly I don't know, but seems like minimal change when I change models, except for 12 string and acoustic... I am hoping that since those few work, that the others are working and the change to the sound is minimal, at least to me... I find myself using the T-Model for the most part, with many of the others sounding like they have too much bottom (or bass like), even in the bridge position... Still love the guitar though... It serves my purpose in not having to carry multiple guitars (I still use 1 other on stage besides this)...

To answer about the Quality Control issue.... I have seen people defend Line 6 in that this is fairly new to them, etc.... I don't buy that either. Come on guys... I don't care whether it is in Korea or here, there has to be someone competent to check these guitars for the price we are paying. It is hard to believe this has gone on for so long. Like I said, I am happy with mine now and while I have had some problems as describe above, it is not as bad as some have had in addition to other countries having a hard time even getting the guitar... with such a winner on their hands, I am disappointed that Line 6 has let this drag on. They should have been on top of this months ago so that NO guitars went out with the switch issue without being tested thoroughly.

Bottom line - I think the guitar is still worth the wait...

Yes... I noticed the same thing... Supposedly, when the "volume knob" is turned down all the way it will not drain the battery, but mine will be dead the next day if I do that.... So, I unplug the guitar cord and it holds the charge pretty good...

Also, a side note to all the discussions... Got mine (Tobacco JTV-59)) in mid-June... within 2 days, I had to send it back to California due to the faulty toggle switch. Had it back in 2 weeks and all has been fine since... AND, the only other situation I had was to change the string gauge... I had asked my dealer what gauge strings came on it... Was told 9's... But no, it was 10's... So, after the guitar came back from California, I took it to a local shop and had them do a setup, lowering the action, setting intonation, string change, etc... Been perfect since... No problems and I hope it stays that way... It is a beautiful guitar... My finish is excellent! Haven't messed with the Variax Workbench yet, that is next...

Just sent it back for the toggle problem... Line 6 has been responsive and are taking care of it quickly...

Ordered mine in December... In mid-January, I got a black JTV-59 (I had wanted the Tobacco, but settled)... The alternate tuning knob would not seat as the routing had not been done properly AND the toggle switch was acting weird like I am reading about... So I sent it back and at that time they told me the backordered Tobacco Sunbursts were due in about a week from then, so I decided to wait and get that, since that was my first choice and I now had to wait on the one I sent back anyhow.... Okay, so here it is, 5 months later and I get the Tobacco... just played it tonight for the first time. Within an hour, the toggle starting acting up, so I got on the forum to see a ton of this problem.... Wow! The toggle works fine on the magnetic pickups and the tunings work fine as well.... But in the modeling mode, it will change models with the Modeling knob, but the toggle will NOT most of the time change to the different variations... Sometimes it will kind of quiver between a couple of settings, then settle in on one... Having waited all this time, I am disappointed that they have not worked out the bugs! How could this be happening to so many? I am going to try what was said about pulling UP on the toggle and see what happens... Whatever the problem is, they should fix it and fast.... I want to make this one work... I am sick and tired of carrying multiple guitars to gigs... Even with this one, I will carry two... (I play keys too, so I've got enough to haul with two amps as well)... Come on engineers, fix this now!!!
