Cool that you just got the POD X3. I still think it's the best. One thing about tones though that we found playing indo and outdoor shows. Test tones at home LOUD and junk the stock tones.

This last one was with a POWERENGINE 2x12 Amp that passes the tone without adding any color.

Tech 21 PowerEngine 2x12 and Pod X3 Live - Awesome Combo!

I still like the "old" Pod X3 Live and recently purchased a new Tech 21 PowerEngine (2x12 but I would think 1x12 would be just as good). Cool thing about this AMP is that the tones sound as designed with little to no coloration. Also allows me to plug into PA directly through the AMP without the amp's volume setting coming into play. So I can use as a show amp or as a Monitor at larger venue connected to a PA. It's also REALLY Light compared to most amps. Just what the doctor ordered as I spent a lot of time building tones!!!

I used my good ol Pod x3 live and found out that you need to build tones to play live separate from my studio tones. I assume it's same for newer hd models as the focus seemed to be home our studio for stock tones. My favorite clean tone for live sounds like this

No stock tones though. I make tones specifically for loud playing and test them loud. That is the trick. The first guitar you hear (JEM) is direct to pa from pod with a nice clean tone with some reverb

old thread but thought it might be useful to someone. Bought a pod for recording way back when and only recently tried it live. Went direct to a clubs pa system and it sounded AMAZING. So much so I canned buying a new hd500. I may use a cheap amp as a monitor next time but the sound was great running directly.

I also did direct to PMP 6000 board at a outdoor show and it also sounded great.

Wow . What a lot of opinions. I do not have a HD 500 but do have 2 Pods X3 Live's. I also have the HD100 MKII Bogner head and Line 6 Stack. I moved back to Pod X3 as it was so damn lick to just bring that wo some gigs. Very large venues I bring both and folks say the sound is better that most folks who just bring amps. There have been a lot of folks who like to tweak with the newest technology but when it comes to live shows I found the Pod went well with my equipment. here are some spots were we used ONLY a pod. Lost Singer 2 weeks before gig so we crammed to do a Satriani set. Pod was directly connected to PA with 15 inch speakers via a PMP 6000 board. Sounded awesome live.
