I know what you mean about unorthodox configurations. One of my favorite setups is the HD to a line-in input of a Mackie 802 compact mixer, then the aux send to a FRFR (QSC K12) powered cab. Sounds weird until I fire it up...an added benefit is that I can use the Mackie to mix vocals into the QSC (with a line out to the house) and I end up with a very simple setup that works very well on cramped bar stages.

I have a couple of hours over 2 evenings w/ the DT...jury's still out but I'm warming up to it. Day one I hated it; this is normal for me...I hate all new gear for the first 24-48 hours. After day 2, I've moved up to ambivalent...I'm starting to understand a little more about getting my "sound" thru the Line6 link and out of the speakers. I don't trust my tweaking skills enough just yet to take it to the gig tomorrow night, but I'll know for sure whether the DT has a home by our next gig on the 11th. That said, it's probably too much for that bar...I'll probably end up using the setup I described above.

Well Neal, I' ve taken the plunge...just bought a "demo" HD50 head w/ full manufacturer's warranty (plus 2 year extended warranty from Sweetwater) with free shipping for $250 off the "street" price for a new one. That (sort of) soothes the cheap skate in me. Now to locate a good 2x12 (for rehearsal space) and 4x12 for the band van...I'm probably going to pass on the line 6 cab and get a good (albeit beat up) 4x12...even if I have to replace the speakers (I like the Hellatone 60s and Classic Lead 80s) well under $400. I used an Avatar 2x12 w/ my THD Bivalve that I really liked...maybe I'll give them a look. Oh and thanks about the advice about DMX cable...seems like that's something Line 6 might want to mention.

Seriously...thanks for your insights. I thoroughly enjoyed the HD500 at the gig last weekend through a QSC K12 and a Senheiser 609 mic'd to the house. It would be fun to A/B this setup with the DT50

First let me say I'm not a tube snob...although I've owned some great ones including most recently a THD Bivalve. That said, I've been gigging with "modeled" sound for years, mostly w/ the Vox Tonelab stuff, either into a Tonelab or direct to PA like in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZIrq2ctgyg

I just took my first plunge into Line 6 gear this month with the HD500 and, after the initial shock of a unit that was dead-on-arrival (fortunately it was just a bad power supply), I'm really starting to love it and will gig with it for the first time tonight. My point, and I do have one, is this, I know I can use the HD500 4-cord method to a Marshall Vintage Modern and then, when I inevitably move on to another digital stompbox, I've still got a no-kidding "real" amp that will be servicable for the next 50 years (not that I'll care much when I'm 105). I'm not so sure I can say that with the DT50. Since both the DT50 head and Marshall 2266 are within a few $ of each other I think that "value" 10 years from now is a fair question...doe anybody else struggle with this?

Sorry in advance if this has been fully explored on other threads...I did try to check cause I hate to be doubly-redundant

Just bought a new 500HD that won't power up. I'm assuming/hoping it's a bad power supply as a new one is on the way from Sweetwater. This is my first experience with Line 6, so I hope this is not indicative of the kind of reliability I can expect...it certainly seems that a small up front investment to include a reliable PSU would be smart if you intended to market your gear to working musicians. That said, I currently carry TWO backup PSUs for my Vox Tonelab.
