I can get some very decent blues rock tones using the M13 into a good tube amp and if i had some sought of recording device i would let you all hear

though Its taken me some time to get the M13 and my Marshall Plexi to like each other as the M13 has so many options.

I have tried Analog pedals and they do sound good but for me they seem to have a sharp edged tone through my amp and my amp is already knife edged and freaking loud

The M13 for me rounds the tone nicely and adds a little hint of natural compression , i guess that what digital does.

I still think there is something wrong with the M13 Screamer as i seem to be getting the guitar dry signal mixed in with the screamer effect and that seems to be more noticeable on a guitar with active pickups as one with passive.

I find the Tube drive works best for blues / rock , also add a compressor and some EQ to taste ,and a little reverb.

I do find you have to find what EQ and compressor works best for you.

I also find when you select an effect don't just think the default setting is it as you can tweak to taste and you might find some surprise's.

One trick that works for me is don't just turn on all effects at once that you are going to use for a particular scene and try to tweak , Start with each effect by itself and tweak to taste.

Good luck with trying to emulate what you want but remember its not just the gear you use its also about your playing that will determine the outcome.

M13 FX Loop question

If I run external OD pedals through the front of my amp and use the M13 through the FX loop of my amp for modulations delays and reverbs and I add some M13 EQ to boost the bottom end of my external pedals would then the EQ through the effects loop help to give my external pedals the bottom end lift I want ? Or would it only aid what's going through the amp FX loop and not the front of the amp?

Had the M13 for about 6 months now and enjoy what I can get from it but I wonder how much more Line 6 will do with it

and by that I don't mean add more effects, I mean the quality of the effects Overdrives etc and that's not to say the M series sound bad in any way at all

When it comes to modeling they sound good

It must be hard to please everybody when designing these things as we all have different tastes and needs

for example I might like the tone of a particular M13 overdrive where a the next person might not

I guess from a sales perspective the HD would far outsell the M series so maybe that's why the HD Pods seem to get all the attention

or maybe Line 6 are working on a new M series and not really focusing on any future updates for the current M series

Anybody else have some ideas ?

Have been using the M13 for a while now and of late have been comparing it with Analog pedals and noticed the following

Analog overdrive / Distortion pedals although might sound a little more true to life or detailed seem to have a harsher sound to them where as the M13 ones to my ears to sound smoother or is that what digital does?

Its almost like the M13 Tube drive and screamer seem to have some natural compression that rounds out the top end

And ive also found that with the M13 Overdrives you have to crank up the effect volume (not gain) to get them to realy shine but thats hard to control on a 100 watt Plexi LOL

phil_m i tried your advice re using M13 in the FX loop of my amp and i don't no why i didn't do this from the start

It sounds fantastic

I have the Analog dirt pedals into the front of the amp and the M13 for Delays , Reverb's and Modulations via FX send and return on the amp and they sound sweeeet

MMMMMMM Even the Overdrives and distortions in the M13 Sound better through the Amp FX loop

I have a Marshall 100 watt Plexi SLP and as much as i love its natural tone it can get a bit harsh at times but by having the M13 via the FX loop it rounds off that harsh edge

So yeah im happy

If i connect my Analog pedals via the front of my amp as normal and have the guitar plugged into the Analog pedals and not M13 and then connect the M13 via the FX loop so i can use the M13 just for Delays , Modulations etc would that work?

Would it be M13 FX send to amp FX return and amp FX send to M13 return? or just M13 FX send to Amp FX return?

Im not realy up with FX loop stuff

The reason i ask is i don't want to go out and buy more guitar leads if this idea wont work.

I have got the same problem with my Screamer effect ,

and the more i turn up the overall Screamer volume the less noticeable the problem is

HD 500 vs M13

Well some time ago I had a HD 500 plugged into a Vox AC 30 and liked what I heard then I updated my amp to a 100 watt Marshalll Plexi and the HD sounded weak through it but then again I didn't give it much of a chance through the new amp so I sold the HD and got a M13 and it sounds good but I'm starting to miss something about the HD amp modelling , to my ears the amp modelling has some little hint of natural compression that the M13 doesn't and I did like that in the HD , it just seems to add feel to the tone so I might see if can borrow a HD and give it a good go before taking the plunge.

I checked out the M9 on the web and it doesn't have FX loop so if you want compressor before your new pedal you will have to get a external one to go in front of OD pedal

but if you want compressor after OD then you wont

Or if you like the M9 for all of its other effects and can afford it then upgrade to the M13 and that way you can put your new OD pedal any where in the chain via the FX loop without having to buy an external compressor

I personally believe compressor is better when in front
