Re: anyone replace their own USB jack?

I just had this done on my HD500. I'm an electronics technician by trade, handing over my pedal for 2 weeks to have it repaired when I could have done it myself was difficult. But I didn't want to void my warranty so...

How experienced are you soldering? The board is most likely to be double sided, so each pin of the USB socket will be in a "through hole" pad. These can be tricky to de-solder without damaging the board. You will need a decent quality soldering iron with de-solder braid and solder wire. It helps to re-melt the joint and add some fresh solder to each joint, and then remove solder with the braid. This process will probably need to be repeated until all soder is removed. Patience young apprentice!!! (Try to find an old circuit board to practice on)

You will need to dis-assemble the unit to remove the PCB. Then you desolder and solder from the bottom of the PCB.

Another option would be take the pedal to a repair shop (non Line6 authorised) and have them replace the socket. Should be no more than 2 hours labour. You could save by removing the PCB yourself and just taking that to the shop.

In my opinion Line6 should honour the warranty of a defective part regardless of where the product was bought or if the warranty period has expired. Their honouring of warranty on many other units is accepting responsibility that an inferior component was used. Especially considering such a fault could be filed under negligent use.

This should give you faders for your inputs, outputs and master section. Swing off the output faders to mix it how you want it. Use the input faders to set a good solid recording level.

Hope this solves your problem.

I was thinking exactly what you've said yesterday but just haven't had the time to see if the values given are factors of 0.48 (with rounding). Its a shame because 0.48 is so close to 0.5 which would make it useful!!

Further to the DSP theory, the POD is still going to process the same amount of info. The end points of -24 and +24 would require the most processing power as it needs to process infinately varibale notes across 4 octaves. If anything, limiting the travel by reducing max/min values should free up DSP as there is less travel of the glide!!

I hope line6 can fix this as it would make the pitch glide effect a lot more useable.

I have submitted a request suggesting the resolution be 0.1.

Thanks for the input Philtno.

I understand the point you make with regard to DSP. But I dont think there would be much of a difference, if any, between a toe down value of 4.7 and 5 for example. If this is the case perhaps the values could be made to be more useful and count in exact halves or whole numbers as opposed to the seemingly random nature it counts at at the moment.

My reason of concern is that I have always used a Digitech Whammy pedal, buying the HD500 was to replace the whammy. Now I found myself illogically limited by the HD500.

Any Line6 reps or Expert users care to have some input to this???
