Thanks, at least I know I'm looking for the right thing. I can only seem to find any TRS cables on ebay, and then they're not listed as any real brand names, and I'd like to avoid getting a rubbish cable that'll soon break. They all cost around £6-8, and I'd be happy to spend a bit more on a better quality lead.

Any Englishmen out there who have had any luck?

I haven't played my Variax 300 in ages after the Planet Waves TRS cable broke, and I'm looking to get it started again. I was very new to the whole guitar and tech world back then, so I didn't even realise that the TRS cable was different to any other normal one. I've had a look for another planet waves cable on the intertubes, but I'm having trouble finding one that looks like it'll work when I hook my guitar through the funny littleXPS mini box. The descriptions aren't all that helpful for someone who doesn't really know what they're looking for, and there doesn't seem to be much choice in the UK for these things. Using batterie with a normal cable isn't all that convenient, see.

I'd be really gratefulful if anyone could help- if you could let me know that I'm doing the right thing, what cable I need, and which ones are any good from which retailers, I'd be well chuffed!

Variax cable and box thing

When I got my variax a few years ago, it came with a planet waves cable, which is the only cable I had which would work with it. It also came with some box thing, which allowed the guitar input, output to amp, and power supply for the guitar to all come together into one glorious whole, which said line 6 on it.

My cable and box are now broken, so I'm now using batteries in the caddy to power the guitar with a normal cable, but this is quite annoying. Can someone please tell me what cable exactly I need to get, and what the box is exactly and where I could get one? Or if anyone knows of a different setup for my guitar, I'd be appreciative.

Thanks, but I've already tried using that round power tool filey thing about a month ago, and it worked nicely, up until a couple of days ago. I'm going to try just playing with a thinner pick... dunno what else to do. And I'm not going into the guitar. Oh well, cheers

String breakage at variax saddle

I've been playing my first and only electric guitar a lot recently, and have started to have a load of problems with my top 3 strings. After lots of playing, the thin strings vibrating on the saddle seem to have worn the saddle down a little bit, and there are now little grooves in the saddle where the strings are resting. These grooves look like they are breaking the strings because they are not smooth like the rest of the saddle, and I've gone through quite a few G, B and high E strings. Apparently a new bridge and everything would cost a lot, and I've tried sanding and filing the saddle parts down, only for the same problem to arise. I've thought about changing the individual saddle bits on the guitar, because there's a saddley bit for each string, but I don't know how I'd do that. Has anyone had a problem like this and managed to deal with it? Thanks.

Guys, I stand corrected. After using batteries, some cable I found lying around the house now works. I feel quite silly now, but at least I can blame it on a 'professional' guitar salesman.

That's surprising. Are you telling me this from your own experience? Because whenever I have tried playing my guitar through an amp with any 1/4 inch guitar cable other than the one I got with the guitar, I get nothing at all. I've tried using cables in college, ones lying around at home, my friend's, and even my brother's bass cables, but to no avail.

I've recently started using batteries to power my variax aswell now, because the little black box which you use to connect your guitar, mains plug, and effects/amp has broken.

Well, I'll give it another shot with loads of different cables anyway. Thanks for your help.
