Yes it's a bug... you can't set the Preset/Patch tempo via HD500 Edit.

You have to set the tempo's physically on the HD500 itself.

Press and hold the "View" button on the POD HD500 to go into the "Setup Menu" (page 2-1 in the manual). Scroll to page 6/10 inside the setup menu and access the Tempo settings there (page 2-10 in the manual).

Remember to save each patch after you make changes. Also in a "Live" setting if you tap tempo a Preset, remember to reach down and press Save twice to save the new tempo.

I'll assume you have POD HD500 Edit running or will find it, download and will install it.

HD500 Edit Setup:

After starting POD HD500 Edit, Click on the "Set Lists" button (to the right of Controllers) and pick a "New Tone" (empy patch) in any one of the 3 empty User Setlists.

Click on the "AMPS" button and choose your Amp Model and the Drive and tone knob values and Mic type.

Click on the "FX" (left most) button where you'll see 8 empty effect spaces. In any of one these available 8 effects, Click on the "FX Type" drop down menu and select FX Loop (at the very bottom). You should see "FX Loop" populate the FX Model name box.

Now up in the visual display your Amp and FX LOOP icons will show... Click on and drag your FX LOOP in front of the Amp.

External Setup:

Plug in all your discreet pedals in the order you want.

Plug in a cable to "FX Send" and run it to your first pedal. Plug in a cable to the output of your last pedal and run that to the FX Return on the HD500.

Just to the right of the FX Return on the back of th HD500, there's a switch, slide it to "Stomp".

Other:

You can assigh a controller switch (FS1-FS8) to turn on/off your FX Loop if you ever desire to turn your pedals off and run the effects inside the HD500... or you can set up and run both your pedals and HD500 effects.

I'm not sure how but there is a "Test Mode" you can get into to test all the footswitches.

To get there, power up while holding down the right arrow on the "Nav" (navigation) knob, then you'll be presented with a 'Menu' (the first choice is pedal calibration).
Scroll down to "Test" mode and enter it.

Try this cuz the unit can get futzed up... as mine did... the Set List names wouldn't stay and the pedal wouldn't move any pararmeter assigned to it. Who knows I still may have to "re-flash" of reset to factory settings.

OK, there are a few things to try before admitting it's a hardware (switch) failure.

Please see this link... starting about half way down. There's a lot of stuff so I'd read it all.

1) I would back up any presets you want to save, then use Line 6 Monkey to reinstall the latest firmware.

2) Try reflashing your unit's Flash Memory. Do not keep your existing presets and when you have completed the update reset the HD500 Global Presets by holding doen the left button on the 4 way Nav Pad as you apply power (you will have to recalibrate the expression pedal).

If it still doesn't work as expecyed, put the unit in TEST mode by holding down the right button on the 4 way Nav Pad as you apply power and then run the tests on the foot switches.

Whew...

I thought for a few minutes that maybe it was just me & my PC.

I saw this a few weeks ago too.

What helps me is to select "Open Questions" vs. "All Questions" in the drop-down menu (filter) box.

But the bottom line is this needs to be cured by someone at Line6.

Hopefully the length of it continuing isn't tied to lack of supervision or interest by Line6 on our forum?

You can't set the tempo via HD500 Edit... for the time being, it's a known bug. You have to do it on the POD itself for which I even unplug the USB cable. I know cuz I was spinning around and around over this same issue and posed the question a few months ago.

There are two ways I do it.

If I'm playing to a specific click track, for example 114bpm, I'll use this method... see page 2-10 in the Manual (v2.10). Be sure to press "Save" for your preset(s).
If I'm playing live, not using a click track then you can tap tempo with the song and it'll follow. For me in this scenario, I'll then press "Save" also as for the next time I play the song I'll be close.

Lastly, if you have multiple time signatures within a song my only suggestion is to save the same preset with your different tempos.

P.S. Yeah... what's the deal with all the spam in the website??? If you select "Open Questions" vs. 'All' then it seems to filter the crap out.

Since I'm not there I can't be sure...

But...

It's possible that you have mono effects and only the left channel is active or you've possibly pressed a footswitch turning off a stereo effect?
If you have a volume pedal in the chain(s) it may need recalibration (happened to me for unknown reason) as it may be frozen at minimum.
Do the "Balanced" line outs work?
Does the headphone out work... it may be your amp.

Just some things to check.

It appears you're on the right track. The typical 1/4 stereo connector is aka a "Tip-Ring-Sleeve".

Two more sanity checks from the manual:

1) It is important to note that some Models (all EQs, Wahs & Volume, and some Modulations,

Filters, Pitches and Delays, as well as the FX Loop) preserve a stereo output within the

signal chain, while others (all Dynamics, Distortions, all Amps & Preamps, and other

various Models) are mono FX and do not.

2) Note that it is necessary to set one of the FX Blocks within your Preset to the “FX Loop

before you’ll hear the signal fed through your SEND & RETURN device connections.

The vast majority of HD500 users love the box.

However it is not that easy to operate it or the setup and control of it without reading the manual and spending some time 'tweeking' it.

Hopefully before getting to frustrated, you'll find some presets in the CustomTone site (link shown above) that will give you some audio confidence in it.

I've had mine (output set to line) plugged into a Marshall with it's gain all the way down (just using tone and master volume) and it sounded great.
