Re: Problem with Patch Wizard

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you feel the way you do. I was devastated that my AX2 212 broke down with similar issues.

I don't have any experience with Patch wizard, but from the hardware front I do, but purely from working on my own amp, and a hardware fix may sort the patch wizard issues out.

I had the same issue of the random shutdown and restart, not long after I bought the amp ( brand new ), I sent it to Line 6 UK workshops and they ran it in the workshop with the radio playing through it for two weeks, then sent it back saying they could find nothing wrong, so I decided to take a look myself ( beware if you have limited electrical / electronic experience, and make sure you unplug everything before opening up. Another tip I like to switch the power switch to on once unplugged to help discharge capacitors, etc ). The problem was one of the main power supply Capacitors had broken away from the PCB and when gigging at higher volume the vibration would be enough to break the cap away and cause the power supply to drop out.

I also recently replaced all of the capacitors on both boards as they can dry out, its also a good idea to disconnect the ribbon cables and reseat.

Hope this is of some help.

Regards

Tim

Re: I have an Line 6 AX2 212. After a few minutes it goes into to a semi distorted gurgleing type of sound. How can this be fixed.

Hi, not sure if the gurgle that you are describing is the same as I suffered, however, I recently dug the amp out from the depths of my garage to start gigging again and had nothing but a whole load of noise which I can only describe as trying to tune in an old radio with lots of digital oscillation and distortion, this was affected by turning the pots ( would change the frequency and change speed etc).

The main thing is I have fixed it and this is how, I followed the advice of moberi ( many thanks ) who has offered info on this post, and fitted the heatsink to the voltage regulator, I also replaced all of the pots and all of the radial capacitors on the main PC board, a bit fiddly, but if you've got a soldering iron, a solder sucker and a steady hand its worth it. It appears that that the audio signal goes straight into digital through an analogue to digital convertor early on, so any issues at this initial stage is then processed digitally and then converted back Digital to Analogue and then amplified. I think the problem was fixed as one or more of the capacitors at the first stage in the DSP had gone dry, which can cause all sorts of electronic problems. Give it a go

We must keep these legends alive between us, check out the group I have set up where I am urging Line6 to help us support these amps.........Good Luck.
