In my DAW, I'll run two tracks. One dry with some EQ and another with the TSE BOD plugin (freeware) to dirty it up a little. On the dirty track I'll EQ some of the low end out and use it for some extra presence and midrange dirt. I then create a buss track for both bass tracks and run a compressor to glue the two tracks together. I'm still working on getting it just right, but it might be a good starting point for home recording purposes.

When I was doing a lot of gigging, I panned both channels of the mixer to center. To my knowledge (and I could be wrong), when L and/or R are panned to center it is sending full signal from both the left and right channel to both XLR outputs. This limits your stereo capability, however. We never ran our P.A. stereo, so stereo effects would have been lost as soon as it hit our mixer, anyway.I did try running both right and left XLR outs to the board, as well as Left only. They both worked, but I could never get a straight answer from our soundguy as to which was better. With this setup, I set input 2 to same. I'm not sure that you would need to do this and never tried anything different.

I also experimented with running everything in the HD in path A only. I muted the right channel and panned the left channel to center. For this to work properly,I believe you need to have a mono effect at the signal chain split. For this setup, I set input 2 to variax or aux. This seemed to give me a cleaner (albeit weaker) signal to the board.

I would say that if you're running a stereo P.A., pan your HD mixer hard left and right and run a seperate XLR or 1/4" for each and pan accordingly at the mixer.

Hope this helps, man.

It took 2 or 3 months to even start to get a handle on how to get a really good tone out of the HD. Not that what I was getting before that was horrible or anything. Just unrefined. After almost a year of working with it (both live and studio applications), I'm getting much better at shaping the tones that I need.

As far as the EQ's go, yeah the interface isn't the greatest. However, they work. Personally, I don't give a sh1t if it's in % or hz. I twist knobs til it sounds right. It's really not that difficult.

OP: If you X3/XT sounds better, use that instead. Don't attempt to fix what isn't broken.

I set the overall gain to zero and adjust the high pass to get the low end where I like it. This allows me to use the bass paramater on the amp to dial in the low end response (ie. tone) and the eq to clean up the low frequencies.

Probably not the best explanation, but somehow it works for me.

It depends on quite a few variables, really. For instance, if you normally use a lower output pickup, then your patches aren't going to sound nearly the same with active pickups. Even with higher output passives there's a considerable difference (I use Dimarzio D-activators). Usually, I end up tweaking my existing patches to use with my active pickup guitars.

With that being said, I found that the Seymour Duncan Blackouts required less tweaking that the EMG's. Especially in the low end.

If I were you I would follow hurghanico's advice and take the pod to a music store and try it out. Your ears will be your best method of judgement.
