Re: Spider IV 75 restarts when playing, for several users. Bad component identified. Make official repair offer like X3-Live?

I'm averaging about 1 reset per hour of playing the last few days. It's not predictable as to when it happens. Since this is just a hobby for me, I'm not going to give it up for several weeks for a repair shop to troubleshoot/repair. If Line 6 determines the cause of these resets and can confirm a 'fix', then I'll give it up for repair.

I don't see how it voids the warranty, but per above post, that is the Line 6 position on this issue. I'm not willing to risk this kind of money and set myself up for a warranty argument down the road. Even without the warranty discussion, why should I (or anyone else) have to take a brand new guitar and do a neck swap to make it playable. For me, the modeling capabilities are not worth the additional expense of a neck swap and risk of a warranty question later on. I guess we've found the threshold for me on this purchase. It's a shame, because I was sold.

I'm convinced it is more than fret dressing and either the wrong nut or a design issue. I just took a pair of calipers and measured the JTV-69 and my 2 other guitars.

Neck width at nut E-e at centerline of strings

JTV-69 1.615" 1.373"

Epiphone Ultra II 1.695" 1.373"

Yamaha Pacifica 1.705" 1.376"

Note: I did find out that I was wrong about the Yamaha Pacifica nut width. I guess it is so thin, it felt like it was much smaller in width.

There is no way to have essentially the same E-e string spacing and have that much narrower of a neck. The JTV-69 neck is .080"-.090" narrower with the same string spacing. This means there is .040"-.045" less fret on each side. Add that to the fret dressing issue and it is no wonder that the e string will fall off the fret. So, was this the design (as claimed by Line 6) or was the wrong nut installed? The string spacing sure looks like what would be used on a 1-11/16" nut.

The above is why I was considering a neck swap versus trying to work the frets as suggested by Line 6.

There will be a CAR JTV-69 available at MF in a few days. I have the shipping label to return the guitar and will deliver to UPS in the morning.

I have had this guitar since early this month and have been trying to convince myself that I can learn to adjust my playing style to the neck. But I continue to struggle with the high e slipping off the fret. I was considering spending more money to swap the neck, but this post that declares this would invalidate the warranty pushed me over the edge. It's a shame since I liked everything else about the guitar. I really don't understand why the high e slipping off the fret is an issue as I've never played a guitar where this happened before. And I don't play high end guitars. It doesn't happen on my Yamaha Pacifica (1-5/8" nut) nor my Epiphone Ultra II (1-11/16" nut). Based on the number of posts with this issue, there is either a design or manufacturing flaw which should have been addressed by Line 6 and not to let it continue as they have.

I'm just not willing to spend several hundred more dollars only to have the warranty voided.
