It looks like it's part of the device drivers. You may be getting conflicts with other devices, which is why no-one else is seeing the problem. My L6 drivers have had conflicts with my Logitech webcam in the past on XP. I would suggest disabling all devices you don't need through device manager and see if you can then install/run successfully. If so, slowly re-enable the devices until you find the one it's conflicting with.

Well, I'm guessing a little here, but the .cpl extension is usually a control panel extension. That is, for things you want to appear in, and be configured through, Control Panel. I just looked at my Control Panel on XP and there is a "Line 6 Audio - MIDI Devices" entry there so my guess is that it's used for that. Interestingly, I just searched my registry and it's not found anywhere in there.

Tried that already but same message again. I also re-downloaded the software but the result is the same :-(

I am computer literate and have never had such an error on install. What's the use of this file L6DriverControlPanel.cpl? Or is the package corrupted?

Hi,

I've just downloaded this software and tries to install it with the default settings but get the following error on install:

"Error Opening File for Writing C\windows\system32\L6DriverControlPanel.cpl"

How come?

My system is Windows XP.

Hmmm.

As a data point for you, I have XP and it installed and runs fine for me. I already had some Line 6 software installed for my X3L. Maybe that helped. You could try uninstalling Line 6 software, then installing this again. Plus, a reboot never hurts in these situations.

Does the user you are logged in as on XP have Administrator rights?

I take it you have run the latest version of Line 6 Monkey and have let it install the drivers etc... for the HD500?
