Which speaker make/model is best suited for home recording in your opinion? and why?

^This will help me decide on a pair.

...

Yes, you should hear sound from your speakers if you switch them from your computer to the UX8 monitor outputs. You may need an appropriate adapter.

You will find lots of opinions on suitable speakers in other threads on this forum. Do a search - there are many existing discussions that will give you lots of info. I would suggest something with at least a 5" speaker - preferably bigger, but your budget will dictate.

They are reasonably small (sit on either end of my desk) and are probably good enough for my (ancient) ears, but there are so many different makes and types on the market I found it very difficult to decide what to buy. In the end it came down to appearance (I know, I know...), size, power, and Freq Response, but in the end it's somewhat subjective. You should probably listen to several different makes/models, but I didn't have that option. In any case monitors are supposedly very flat in response so they don't "colour" the sound (unlike hi-fi speakers which are much more a matter of individual taste).

Btw, you probaly know, but to avoid mains hum you should plug your monitors and your computer into the same mains wall outlet (and the UX8 if it has it's own power supply).

I use headphones (with the monitors off) for monitoring when recording.

I have normal Creative brand computer speakers I bought from a friend. I just got a new desk w/rack mounts so I can mount my Line6 Toneport UX8, and I received the UX8 in the mail about two weeks ago.

Just opened it last night and mounted it. Went through all of the knowledge portion about the UX8 and how to use it, etc, etc etc. And upon looking at the back or a diagram of the back, I notice plug ins for monitoring speakers (of course).

I have not completed accumulating my money to get monitoring speakers, and I plan on purchasing them for my home studio/projects later on. But for now, I just have original Creative brand Left/Right speakers, w/ one 8" Sub, plugged into the back of my computer through an audio-jack.

My question is, to get playback through the speakers, must they be plugged into the back of my UX8?

I can't get the playback through them as of right now, but I did find out plugging in a pair of Behringer headphones of mine with a 1/4" jack converter into the Main Headphone Out 1. (Which most likely what I will end up using WHEN I record).

But I DO want to know if I can play them back through normal computer speakers and how.

Also, I plan on buying monitoring speakers, as I said above.
