So generally what your saying is in either mode do not use the DI output without a speaker attached?

The DI output works in two modes: Studio/Direct (in standby off and in standby on mode), and; Performance (in standby on mode only).

Whether you are using the power amp or not, having no cab attached will cause your amp to be damaged if you run the output valves with Standby On.

Studio/Direct uses the output from the pre-amp/DSP stage and will work with standby OFF or ON
Performance mode uses the output from the output tubes via a tap onto the output transformer and will only work with Standby ON

You will not damage your amp by using either DI output mode with the speaker cab attached. You will damage your amp if you run it with Standby ON and no cab attached.regardless of what's connected to the DI output so if you do run the amp with Standby ON, you MUST have a cab attached so you would be advised to leave a cab connected at all times

MKII Direct Out question

I recently purchased a MKII HD100 (which i love btw). My question is can i run direct out to my toneport UX2 for recording and still have the sound come out of my 4x12 cabinet?

The reason behind this is for a scratch track with a drummer. My intentions would be to record a guitar scratch track while playing live with the drummer, and then he can use that recorded scratch track to track his drums.

I did a small test last night and was able to get recorded track and sound out of the cab when I switched the standby swith to the off posistion. Could this damage the head in anyway??
