I just finished swapping out the stock tuners on my JTV-59 CSB with the Schallers that were recommended here. It was a quick and painless process. No drilling, no exposed screw holes or issues. These Schallers are probably the best replacement you may find. They fit quite nicely.

The shafts are a bit shorter and remind me of the staft profile on the locking tuners on my Gretsch 6120 RHH guitar. The slightly shorter shaft make the string angle a bit changed, but no big deal. Also I notice the two top tuners, the D and G string are a bit closer to the headstock than the stock tuners. But again no issue at all. The new tuners are a bit heavier, but seem to be better made. The old tuners are made in China and the Schallers are made in Germany.

This is a no brainer and most anyone can swap these out with a screwdriver and pliers and a little patience. It sure makes changing strings on the JTV-59 way easier!

I suspect tuning stability will be improved and I thing it may have increased sustain a bit. I bought theses here:

The great part is you can swap back to the stock tuners without a problem if you decide to.

I just ordered the Schallers also. found them here http://www.themusiczoo.com/product/3184/All-Parts-Schaller-3x3-Locking-Tuners-Chrome/ at a good price. For some reason ordering them directly from AllParts was quite a bit more.

You guys had luck with these so I am giving them a try. I am not super happy with the stock tuners.

Went with the Schallers and I really like them.

I do think they are a better product than the Planet Waves auto trim tuners though I miss the auto trim feature.
They seem really well made and substantial.

I feel bad saying that since I think the Planet Waves product is good and they are a good company.

They are a little heavy though, I honestly laughed when I read reviews saying that.

I thought you woudlnt be able to tell, but you really can. Its not a big deal however.

I think they look great on the 59

See this thread below for how we retrofitted with Schaller locking tuners into our Korean JTV-59 - there are several images and a Schaller ordering source. Any other brands that just drop in?

I prefer the metal tuners

I know the planet waves auto trim ones don't drop in saddly

Nope, these are a direct drop in. Sustain is definately improved along with tuning stability.

Hi all,

I'm really digging my new 59 and see tons of potential. Played first show out with it for New Year's Eve show and it performed flawlessly. I had mentioned in an earlier thread about changing out the tuners to some locking Tonepros. Did it and here are the results:

Much more stable tuning with these and I like the old school Gibby touch...
