I'm also novice at recording. i used audacity for the longest time thinking reaper was just too complicated. once i put a little time and not much effort into it, reaper was actually easier. i made the switch because, in the end, audacity kept hanging up. so i was kind of forced to change...and for the better

i completely agree.... but it all comes down to the users needs.... doesnt seem like hes looking to do any serious recording or even how to begin doing so....

i was in that position when i first got my guitar and pod... lol... made a cool lick and wanted to record it... ended up as my ringtone for awhile

it has its purpose is all im saying... for a drop dead beginner that has no serious aspirations, its a good place to start to learn the basics of audio recording imo simply because of how simple (ie limited) it is.. for me, it opened to door to try reaper again and i had a better understanding.. jumping right into reaper without knowing anything will turn most users off right away... it'll take them an hour to figure out how to insert an audio track to even begin!

Yeah, the lack of ASIO support in Audacityis a deal breaker. Apparently you might be able to install it though if you are willing to compile source ...

C'mon Steinberg, open source ASIO already !!!

This is true for some, but there are great tutorials and the have a very helpful forum (at least it was a few years ago).

IMHO the learning curve is well worth the benefits you will reap...

true... but audacity is brain dead simple.. it lets someone record what they play, to some thats all they want...

reaper can be a pain to even get working for someone that isnt familiar with that sort of thing.... guess it depends on the need...

Reaper is worlds above audacity! I just made the switch... the main reason being that although audacity is a great program, it DOES NOT DO THE POD JUSTICE!!!

It just cannot work properly - because of it's lack of external ASIO support, so there is added latency.

To set up audacity, set the POD as the input and output modes, and attache headphones/monitors to the POD.
