Me too. I think the jtv69 mags are the quietest I have owned.

I've got a Fender american standard strat as reference, and I'd say my JTV is quiet compared to that. I was quite suprised by how quite the mag pickups are.

Excellent observation. I too notice that the hum is reduced somewhat by moving the JTV away from the computer. too bad that is where I do most of my recording.

One thing I did notice is that when on the Neck pickup, I did most of my editing right next to my massive DAW. That computer with its 6 fans and 8 hard drives really makes the noise seem worse than it really is. When I tested the JTV on my QSC-K12 with a Noise Gate in the chain... all is good! So if I want to record on my DAW, I need a really long cable

I agree with phil_m. I had a friend come over and bring a few of his strats. We compared the 3 guitars and the JTV produced about the same amount of noise as an American Standard strat, and much less noise than the Mexican strat. I guess I had played Les Pauls so long I forgot just how noisy those pesky single coils can be.

True single coil pickups are always noisy to some degree. Depending on where you are and your signal chain, the noise can be worse or better. Other than my Variax, most of my guitars are signal coils, and because of that, I use a noise gate at the beginning of my signal chain. It's either that or just deal with the noise. If the noise is really bad, sometimes it can be an issue of inadequate shielding around the pickup in the guitar, but I don't suspect that's the case here.

I just received my JTV-69. same deal. the single coil neck pickup is very noisy. any solutions?

This sounds pretty normal to me as the single coil pick-ups on the JTV-69 are NOT noise cancelling single coils. Single coils are traditionally a little noisy with their hum and the humbuckers should be considerably quiter.

Traditionaly single coils are hummy, i did hear the recordings and although it is not as bad as i have seen it on my own guitars (namely mynstrat) it is quite frustrating for such an expensive guitar. My advice is go to guitar center and ask them to replace it, the new guitar you will receive from them will answers all your questions regarding the hum on the single coil.
