Line6 may be one of the exceptions, im in no position to make the claim they arent... just discussion though, i have no beef to air out.. lol

I think it's just that with every decision there's a cost/benefit analysis that comes along. Sometimes investing a little bit more time in something makes sense, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes there's a feature that will make one group of people happy but tick another group off. I just don't accept the idea that it comes down to ill intentions or even purposeful withholding of of features. Certainly as a business, future planning is a must, and you have to keep on thinking about how your current product offerings will play into that future.

I think there's a school of thought that says people who make a product and people who buy it are on opposite teams almost. I really don't buy into that, at least not with Line 6. I think they really do want to make products that have the users' best interest at heart. It's just that with such a big user base, they'll never make something that pleases everyone.

L6 keeps it simple for joe-blow, maybe others can handle the extra control?

when you see the business side of any industry, you start to realize the HD could be capable of things they dont want you to have, so they can sell you something else later... like the groupings or restrictions on the 300/400...odds are thats just code to entice you into buying the more expensive unit, just an example...

that is the main reason companies protect their code... not customer service issues... but just discussion and my opinion on tech in general, im not trying to say L6 is trying to screw people or anything... i like my hd500.. lol... but people cant afford to be niave about things like this...

I'm sure they have legitimate concerns with opening it up to outside developers. If one of us writes custom code that has a negative impact on a device, they would be in a position of having to deal with complaints related to code that they didn't write. Still it would be fun to write some code for it.

Something simple like a set list manager where you can re-arrange your patches by changing the order of them in a text file and have it reload the device. Or a utility to take a custom tone file and have it mapped to your rig. For example, I have the HD500 with a DT25 Combo. Almost all of my patches are using a preamp model with chorus mapped to FS1, flanger to FS2, delay to FS3, etc. I also have the output set to a combo. If I download a custom tone that uses full amp models and is mapped to a different output it would be nice to map as much as possible of it to my rig settings. Haven't really charted this out but it would be helpful to me. It seems like I spend more time changing a custom tone to my rig than it should. Especially if it ends up being a patch that I don't like.

As a software developer for 25+ years now, it is very difficult to predict how long a code project is going to take.
