+1 Zap. Also, if you are using the POD for Amp Modelling FX then make sure that you are using a clean channel on the Marshall with the gain set low enough so that it does not clip. If you are using the POD for effects only then make sure that no amp model is selected.

do you have the switch in the back on live mode... studio mode would probably make everything sound bad through a guitar amp input.

I have been trying to make the pod sound good on my marshall by trying every input that it has but it still sounds muffled and the distorion just sounds terrible. I've even tried to download some custometone distortion effects but everything still sounds terrible as if the full sound isnt coming out. what can I do?
