For recording, I use the tube comp on the HD500 and sometimes a mild EQ. In my DAW, I'll run two tracks. One dry with some EQ and another with the TSE BOD plugin (freeware) to dirty it up a little. On the dirty track I'll EQ some of the low end out and use it for some extra presence and midrange dirt. I then create a buss track for both bass tracks and run a compressor to glue the two tracks together. I'm still working on getting it just right, but it might be a good starting point for home recording purposes.

Hi,

I'm also suffering to get a better metal bass tone from the HD Pro.

The high end seems to be ok but I don't feel the lows, the rumble.

I used to have a X3 and I could get a great (if not the perfect) bass sound from that.

I hope that Line 6 will announce some new bass models for the HD series.

For what its worth I use MeAmBoBo's Periphery clean patch with the chorus/verb effects turned off on my drop A tuned bass. Works pretty well actually. I record two tracks then fuzz up the second and mix em together. Ive had decent results.

From my experience, the HD Pro is pretty bad for that sound/style. Solutions I've found are to go spend the $200 on a SansAmp pedal, or if recording, look into a UAD Nigel card or spend $20 on ZombBass (if you're cool with programming MIDI for your bass). FWIW, the pedal is far superior to the plugin.

Be sure to change Input 2 from Guitar or Same to Variax. Was not hip to that tip when putting these patches together.

POD HD Pro Metal Bass Tone?

Hey guys,

I'm having the hardest time getting a good tone for bass with my HD Pro. I'm looking for a tone similar to that of a SansAmp Bass Driver. The "clank" should be there, but I also need a good low end. I've tried the Flip Top model and some others (along with various drive effects), but just can't get something I like. For what it's worth, I'm using a Fender USA Jazz Bass Plus with Lace Sensors. If anyone can help with some pointers/presets to go off, I'd greatly appreciate it.
