Can you post a recording of the sound? It may just be digital clipping from a signal level that is too high somewhere along the chain - it may not be your usb port. Expereienced users here can distinguish clipping from something else and can advise you.

Do you also hear this sound through your headphones while recording?

Also, check your Line 6 Audio-MIDI Devices control panel. On the Inputs/Recording tab there is an option to boost the USB signal by +18db; make sure that is off and try recording again.

I've been having trouble with the sound quality of the Usb recordings from my Pod HD500. When I record something with high gain or effects heavy/atmospheric I get a really crackly sound. This also applies to anything recorded at higher volume levels. Thought this was weird, since I've heard other direct recordings from the HD500 Usb that sound amazing.

I think it may be a problem with the Usb device in my pedal, as I may have damaged it. Or maybe it's because I was working with a crappy DAW, but the former seems more likely.

Main question: Would this be fixed if I were to replace the Usb component in the pedal? I'm almost positive that's the problem.

Also, would replacing this cause other defects or problems with the device?
