Now my Line6 has all but died. I get no real sound out of it at all but some strange humming cycliing when I first power it up.

I had a 1969 Fender Bandmaster that had its caps and transformer replaced twice before I got it in 1976, and for 35 years, it never had any problems - just shows you can never tell.

Already tried other guitars and cords as metnioned in my October 3rd post. Guess it's to the amp sparky doctor. I hope it's not too much just to get it working properly agian.

I agree, any amp can have issues, even Marshall's. I didn't expect my bought brand new Line6 Spider IV 75 watt to have issues so soon. I have two Marshall's a 50 watt and 150 watt. Both gigged by alternative rock (ok punk) bands, I've owned the oldest for about 10 years, the other about 7 years, they are both far older than that and both are running strong with no issues. I thought the 50 would have died by now or at least had problems some time back. Both still rock steady work horses.

I do really like all the effects/presets on the Line6 that's why I bought it. I'd like it up and running for minimal $ to continue to have fun with it.

If you have another guitar (and cable) you can try, do so, if the propblem happens with that one too, then the only option woudl be to bring the amp to an authorized service center for evaluation.

Any piece of electronic gear can have a problem - even a Marshall!

No I have no active pickups as you stated. This all started with my Ibanez Artcore AM93.

Been playing it no issues, suddenly this happens. I usually start my guitar voulme knobs at about 5 and adjust down/up from there. I’ve played many times with this guitar and other guitars with the volume much higher with no issues. Now this happened, and I realize the volume is an issue. Not sure why though…

Aha - now we are getting somewhere! By chance, are you using a guitar with active pickups (battery-powered)? There are many threads here from people with active EMGs with the same problem. Seems like these active pickups are overdriving the preamp input, causing it to cut out. The solution seems to be sending the guitar signal through any stompbox pedal, which will condition the signal. I think that if you had a high end pedal that provided 'true bypass', this would not work, but most pedals don't really provide a true bypass.

fflbrgst - Thanks for the info! I had some time and tried what you said, great instructions easy to do.

It's default is G+NR. I tried changing threshold and no difference in my problem. I turned both off and got all sorts of great hissing like a cat in heat. I'd expect that though. I did notice a slight difference in that I could hear very slightly the strings but not at volume and then it would fade back in.

One thing I did discover. With my volume on my guitar set at 3-4 or above the amp cuts out. I tried switching cords and guitars, same thing even worse on one, where it was around 2 that it would start cutting out and fading back in.

It happens on any of the presets. Amp volume settings (like a clock face) are as follows: My channel volume is at about 10:30 and my Master volume is at 8:30. Nothing crazy but it does get real loud much higher than 10 O'clock on the master volume.

Now I'm no amp guy or electronic whiz, but I'm suspecting something with the preamp, if there is one. It's getting overloaded when the guitar volume is higher and is cutting out. That or the electronics are dying.

Any other options / opinions greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the Gate setting is doing this. Go into Edit mode (touch/move the reverb knob to get to the reverb setting automatically)

If you press the right arrow from the Reverb screen, you’ll see the Gate screen. Your Gate Mode choices are Off (Gate is disabled), Gate (a standard noise gate), NR (a frequency dependent noise reduction) or Gate+NR (both Gate+NR together). You can also adjust Threshold and Decay settings. Gate parameters are saved with the individual preset.

Try disabling the Gate and see if that fixes your problem.

Again my amp cut out after I adjusted the master volume up a scoash. I reset it numerous times, it did not come back to life, it still cuts out when you strike the strings, then if fades back in. What's up with that?

I know I may need to take it in, but I'm not thrilled that a sort of new amp has these issues after only two years. I rarely play, like I should.

RANT: I have a Marshall AVT150 used, gigged by the original owner. I've had it for at least seven years no issues, period. Get my drift? Not happy with the Line6.
