Actually I was triyng to do the opposite, just connect the X3L and let it be there, while I control podfarm.Im glad that is doable

you can't control pod farm from the X3L if that's what you are trying to do...

the only things the X3L does is act as an interface and authorize the license...

so it needs to be plugged in... and that it.... it will do nothing else for you at that point its all pod farm

I just ran the licence software last night because none of the macs were recognizing the x3L on the podfarm plugin.

So, since my macs are now authorized, I should be able to pick a dry guitar sound, insert the podfarm plugin and as long as the X3L is connected, immediately have total control over all amps/fxs in the X3L through the podfarm.

I will try it in a couple hours + start a new thread if something comes up.

You may have had some authorization issues on the Mac, I think that was ironed out with an update.

I would give it another go and start a new thread if you run into issues.

and that would be everything I´m looking for right now.
Capturing a dry and wet signals, into the same session, at the same time. Adding the plus factor of being able to go back and reamping the dry track with X3L is more I could ask for actually.
I am pretty damn sure I´ve already tried to run podfarm1 as a plugin on a dry track that had just been tracked with the X3L and nothing happened, but my disapointment haha
I really thought podfarm would easily run as a plugin with the X3l connected, since all amps and fx are there and unblocked by the X3L.

Something went wrong I guess.

Well sort of.

A used GX Toneport will have at POD Farm 1.12 standalone.

A new GX Studio will have POD Farm 2.5x plug-in and standalone (just the standard models).

Your X3L should have a license bundled with it that is equivalent to POD Farm 1 Platinum plug-in, but requires the X3L be connected via USB as a security dongle. (You would still use Gearbox as a graphical editor for the X3L).

With either a used Toneport or new POD Studio, you have the ability to capture the dry while monitoring the wet, or capture both.

So a typical workflow would be to dial in an approximate tone with the GX standard models, you can monitor the wet in real time while capturing the dry or both, I usually capture both to remind me what I was thinking at the time. Then after recording you would launch the POD Farm plug-in, with the X3L connected, within Logic and apply it to your dry tracks. Now you will have all the models available as a plug-in.

I will point out the POD Farm 2.5 has more flexible signal chain options, but the actual tones for each model and effect are the same as PF 1. And with the licenses bundled to the devices, you can only use one or the other.

So, I can use pod farm 2.5 free with the studio GX, record with the amps available and later change the tone with the X3Live!
Well, you will have to teach me how to do that because I never thought it was possible.

An old Toneport will likely not have the plugin. But you can record with it, dry, wet or both.

Also, if you capture the dry, you could always add the plug-in post processing with all the packs with the X3 as a dongle.

A new Studio GX will have a POD Farm 2.5 license, standaolne and plug-in (tied to the device).

But I don't think th GX comes with a free pack, the UX1 and UX2 come with FX Junkie.

The KB37 is more than I need just to record ideas.
The purpose is just so I dont have to bring my rig (incl. a pod x3L) home from the rehersal room everytime I feel like traking ideas.

From what I understand, having a toneport is the same as having a pod xt, as the studio GX already comes with an extra pack.

specs wise they look pretty much the same I guess.

I would love to be able to use all the packs on my X3L on a toneport or Studio GX, but it seems the packs are locked to the gear and are not transferable.

For my money, the best value is a Pod Studio KB37. It has all the I/O you need, and it's a MIDI controller. You can then trigger the sounds within Logic Pro, record mic, guitar, bass and keyboards (two inputs at a time), and it supports 24/96 resolution. It can even support 5.1 surround mixing if you have the software to do so. Makes for one kick *** studio for not a lot of $$. I love mine!
