The trick is to think of it as a two part thing

1) Assign a controller (footswitch or expression pedal) to toggle an effect or (for expression pedals) to change a parameter.

2) Use a Midi CC to control the controller.

As the gents above have said, full details in the Appendix to the Advanced guide. Make sure that your firmware is 2.0 or greater.

The HD500 does respond to CC messages, and you can actually control the footswitches within a preset via MIDI. Check out page B.2 of the Advanced Guide.

Yes, you can configure the HD500 footswitches to send midi messages. Check the MIDI ASSIGN page in the HD500. You can also use HD500 Edit to do this.

I am able to control preset switches and setlist switches via midi (through logic) but I am unable to control footswitches, correct?

So I can

1. Change all the setlists

2. Change all the presets in that setlist (1A-16-D)

3. But within the preset, I'm locked in unless I want to use my feet, cause they don't receive cc messages?
