Thanks for all your help and advice. I had a go at constructing an acoustic patch frm scratch and just couldn't get anything that sounded at all good to me. So I had a go at some of the presets in the Bass/Aco/Voc section and found the one with the multiple studio EQs - I tweaked it a bit, added some chorus and a short delay and it sounds really really good with my Vax 700 electric. Can't work out why couldn't get a good sound myself from scratch, though...

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get a good acoustic tone with Variax JTV - HD500 - DT25 ?

Also check out custom tone for some acoustic setups people have already posted. I have found quite a few of these work very well.

All good advice above. If you check out the presets in the Bass.Aco/Voc suggestion (as Akeron Suggests) some of the patches are built using multiple EQs instead of an amp sim.

I know that, with the magnetic soundhole pickups that I use on two of my acoustics, I need to use a pretty big EQ cut to get them sounding natural and acoustic at around the 500Hz mark. It may be well worth experimenting with the neck pickup (or whatever works best on the Variax) and an EQ in that area.

You can try the setlist "Bass/Aco/Voc" as a base.

Exactly my point of view. The VintagePreMic is in the EQ section, not in the amp section. It is simulating a preamp for microphone.

the best amp model for acoustic guitar is: none..

it's not so necessary to have one..

none of the amp models included in the HD500 is adequate for acoustic sounds, but only for electric guitar or bass..

if you look at the included factory presets you'll find some good examples of acoustic patches to start with..

generally speaking: a vintage pre mic + a little compression + some eq + some delay/reverb will give a optimal result

Hi there. I would really value some help in creating a great acoustic tone with my brand new HD500. I bought the unit last Friday and only had about a half hour to set it up before a gig on Sunday - but I managed to get a great sound out of it with minimal (so far) tweaking. I'm using a Variax 700 (electric) and I'm fine with the electric guitar sounds but could do with some advice on creating a great acoustic sound, so any advice greatly appreciated e.g. amp (or pre-amp) model, etc. I usually use a bit of compression and chorus plus reverb - I think I'll be ok putting some effects in the chain - it's really the amp models that I could do with help on. I'm running the HD500 into a Yamaha MSR 100 powered monitor using the balanced out and then running into the house PA using the other balanced out. Many thanks in advance for any thoughts/tips etc.

Incidentally, I might be missing something, but why doesn't the unit have a modelled acoustic amp e.g. Fender Acoustasonic, AER Compact 60? That might make things a bit easier!
