Yeah, I already done the testing with a normal ethernet cable (borrowed from a wireless router, haha). Everything was ok, sound and power, so definetly the cable was the problem. Thanks for answers.

So, conslusion is that yes, the vdi interface can carry only partial information (power, but no sound).

You can test the cable - try any other standard CAT-5 cable just for test purposes. The only difference in the VDI cable is the protective shielding at the cable ends. For regular use you definitely need the shielding; for brief test purposes any network cable should do.

Thanks. Input type is Variax+Guitar, so should be ok. Still no sound.

Make sure that your HD500 patches are configured to accept the Variax VDI as an input.

Hi all,

I have a JTV-69 and a POD HD500, i have tried today to update the variax to 1.9 firmware, the software (mac) and the pod hd500 does not recognize the variax connected by vdi cable, there was no sound also (i was surprised, a didn't used the variax for a few days, at last use everything was fine). I connected the variax also with normal guitar cable (vdi still connected), i had sound, variax can change models and tunings. In conclusion vdi cable provided power for variax, but no sound was transmitted (i always use vdi cable, never the battery).

It is possible for cablel to transmit only partial information? How can i verify the cable? Is there some settings in pod hd500 limiting the vdi inteface (i know nothing of that kind)?

The idea is: i want to identify the problem before ordering a new cable.
