I think I'll use my midi controller to control the amp then and use the HD through the front for effects only. Or just use my current effects set up through the front.

Just to mention, using the L6 Link will give you 30 different pre amps to play with (instead of 4), making the DT a very versatile amp .... but if you are happy with just the 'built in' amp tones, then midi will work fine.

Alternatively, with the latest DT firmware, you can configure the amp with 8 (of the 30) different amp models (4 on each channel), and control via midi.

when you connect a HD to a DT amp by L6 Link, the HD models are not completely bypassed, the HD replaces the DT pre-amp

... this is correct if you have a DT amp model 'on', but if the there is no active amp model on the HD, the DT pre amp on channel B is active.

That's the beauty of this rig ... so many options! :-)

when you connect a HD to a DT amp by L6 Link, the HD models are not completely bypassed, the HD replaces the DT pre-amp (digital/modeled) part of the modeled amp while the DT contributes with the tube power-amp (analog/real) part (best part I would say)..

with this configuration, when everything is connected, you can control every aspect/choices of both devices from your HD, or from the HD Edit program.. and furthermore you can add and manage all your effects and combinations..

PS.

- the internal DT pre-amps are digital/modeled and the power-amp section is true tube analog

- the HD alone can't be 100% identical to the DT, there are just some hot real valves of difference!.. but it can go close to it,.. maybe 80%?

that more or less 20% of difference justifies the invention of the DT series, otherwise it would have been more than enough for Line6 to give us some good FRFR speakers so that the "dream" come true..

actually to be sincere I'm quite happy with my HD500 through my FRFR output system..

luckily more than 50% of the final sound depends on the hands that play the instrument .. and in my case I can not complain of myself..

80% approximation of great true tube sound is currently more than enough for me, if I can do it sing well ..

when I'll be able to afford the 100% tube quality, for example with an added DT amp, maybe I will feel literally in paradise..

that's why they call it "dream rig"!.. or not?

If you connect your HD300 to the DT using L6 Link, you can control all the DT settings using the HD300, along with all your effects / patches

Howdy all.

I've just bought a brand new second hand HD 300 as I'm getting ready to purchase an DT 25 and a couple of single cabs.

I love the sounds of the actual amp - but have found the pod to be a little digital - maybe I'm using the wrong outputs???? (SHOULD the HD sound the same as the DT tonally????? I've got an awesome Trace Elliott valve amp and simply want to be able to get the fat sound of channel IV of the DT series amps. Is this possible through the HD??? - but these are not my main questions - the ones below are almost reverse of what I'm saying here)

Anyway - I'm using a Roland GFC 50 midi controller through the Trace and am wondering if I can do the same with the HD to control the 4 channels of the DT amp. I understand that I can push the fx only button - but does this mean I can somehow use the patches to control the amp - not the pod (because amp models are bypassed...)

Am I making sense??? I want the best of both worlds. The pod to control the sounds of the amp ( & possible create patches from the amp ie. channel 4 on 1a of the pod and channel 4 of the amp with more volume on channel 1b of the pod - just like I'm using the midi controller with my Trace.)

BUT I ALSO want to be able to use the pod as an effects unit AS WELL AS a "midi" controller...

Thanks for any feedback.. I've been doing my research but am doing my head in.

Any help with dinging channel IV of the DT in the HD would be HUGELY appreciated.
