I hear what you're talking about. Typical beating aside, when you're playing the E string on the 11th and the B on the 12th simultaneously there's this weird droning noise that sounds like it's a wibbly wobbly C one octave below middle C.

Well i have to say that's it's been a while since i've changed my strings, so i will change them first.

I'd say the string cannot vibrate freely. Check this:

- Are the strings clean and new enough?

- Is the e-string set high enough? Set the e-string higher and test it.

- Do the frets have a clean shape? When the frets are worn the strings lie deeper and touch other frets. Then the frets have to be repaired and brought to the same level. Check if it always happen at the same fret.

Hi Jeroen,

I think it's common to hear "clashing" overtones when playing 3rd and 6th intervals. Perfect intervals (4th, 5th, and octave) sound 'smoother" when played together.

It might help to turn down the hum setting in the amp parameters

Not sure if this it but I had a weird overtone that did not sound a million miles from that on my Gibson LP style guitar recently. It was on the High E string and sounded like there was a dissonant overtone. As I moved up the neck it become more prominent.

I recently noticed a false (off sounding) tone on the higher notes. Sometimes it sounds like a bad harmonic sound. It just sounds not right.

I've search the forum but i haven't found someone with a similar problem.

In this clip i played the eleventh fret on the high-E en the twelfth fret on the B string.

I've tried all sort of different settings but nothing seems to eliminate this annoying 'extra' tone.

Is there someone with the same problem or someone who has dealt with it.
