I was playing my AVRI Jazzmaster last night, and I did some A/B comparisons between it and the Chime model on the Variax. I know the Chime is modeled after the Rickenbacker, and on the surface it's pretty different from the Jazzmaster. However, they're guitars from around the same era, and they both tend to be somewhat "janglier" guitars. Using the stock Chime model (not the 12 string of course), I thought that the sounds produced by my Jazzmaster and the Ric were pretty darn close.
