the x3 has the same models... so the overall tone options will match the xt.... the implementation and better processing makes the tones not exact.... but you do get dual tone options etc... coming from the xt you should be pretty happy... strictly speaking though probably not a total 1:1 tone but not wildly different either.

I also have been looking at the pod x3 live but am afraid it will not sound as good as the xt. I was really dissapointed in the hd 500. The clean sounds were pretty good but I could not get a decent bluesy / slightly distorted sound. Even using the same (at least in name) models as the XT.

the sounds should be very close... you'd want to make sure they both have the same firmware for best results.

I have a podt xt that I have been using for years and want to buy the pod xt live if the sounds are pretty close. I bought apod hd 500 and didn't like it at all.
