I mean, I'd like the monitors to be muted instead of set to 0 volume. I would use this mixer for my band, and use it every show in the same configuration, including monitors. It's not a big deal, but we have all settings the same, position of microphones identical, pos. of stage monitors identical, so theoretically all levels are identical. I understand the reason for the 0 volume in monitors, but as I said, quicker and more practical would be keeping previous settings intact, like the last time the mixer was on, with the exception that monitors would be muted. That would be of great help for a band that finishes the show, shuts down, next time opens the mixer and just unmutes the monitors, and everything is just as the last show. Even in the situation when the power is cut for a brief moment... you are back with no setting required, just unmute, because in the middle of show, I dont think I'll get every monitor exactly as before...

A multi band compressor is actually 4 individual compressors each tuned (using electronic crossovers) to operate on a limited portion of the spectrum ... kinda like the way a 3-way (or in this case a 4-way) speaker does.

What this does is to actually control dynamic range without adding much coloration. Normally if you used a sinlge full range compressor and you hit it with a strong bass note or kick drum smash, it will clamp down on all frequencies. So every time you kick that compressor will put it down like you do want but it also will pull down the highs (think cymbals) which you would really rather leave alone.

By splitting the compression into 4 bands the lows, low mids, mids and highs are all seperate so now that kick wont cause your cymbals or the sparkle in your voice to be sucked out. So to simplify, this means that you can use much more compression without compromising the sound. And in a PA system that can mean that you can actually play it louder than you would normally expect for a given sized speaker system

Of course you can trick it up and customize it to purposly color your tone if you like. But just using it straight off the patch list is easy and can really make things louder when you need to do that.

Yes - when loading a setup the main output level is set to zero. Presumably that's a precaution to avoid possible problems when moving gear to different venues. For instance, a volume level set/saved for a large venue could be problematic if the setup is recalled at the same volume level in a much smaller venue, perhaps using different house monitors. People's ears could get hurt and equipment could get damaged.

However, a scene is part of a setup; once the setup has been loaded and the volume properly set, it should not be reset to zero when you simply load a new scene within the setup. Typically, a Setup is loaded once, at the beginning of the gig/night, to reflect the band's equipment and as part of the setup the main volume level is manually set to suit the venue. Then the performance moves through different Scenes as desired with out needing subsequent changes to the main output level.
