I'm with you on that one... like having some trem options in the arsenal bigsby/floyd/strat but mostly don't use them. I'm curious how the 89F handles the modeling though.

Yeah, I was so relieved that I managed to bring it back to life!

I don't mind Locking trems and I've never had any of the issues people who don't like them seem to raise, but to be honest, I don't have the time to faff about with locking trems anymore and when I did have them, I barely used them. Haha.

I am currently running Windows XP and I've had various sound cards and device drivers installed on it over the years so there could well be reminants of an old device/driver in there somewhere which could be causing the Midi errors.

I'm not going to worry about that too much at this time as I have a new Windows 7 64bit PC arriving in a few days and I'd like to think that I won't have any of the same issues I've had when it arrives, which is why I am going to wait till it comes before I attempt to update my M20d. Haha.

Do you actually have a MIDI interface or device in your computer? Monkey seems to get very confused by certain sound cards. I typically run Variax Workbench and firmware updater in a VMware Windows XP machine hosted on Linux. Unless the virtual sound card is disabled, Monkey hangs hard while searching for (non-existent) MIDI devices. I've seen several postings here that suggest this can happen with real hardware as well. You haven't said whether you're on a PC or Mac platform, but if the audio can be disabled from the BIOS setup that may work around the errors you mention.

FWIW, once the firrmware update has been done I can re-enable the sound and Workbench runs fine. It appears to be only the firmware updater that has issues.

Excellent call on the cable.

I tried the cable I got with the Variax on my Variax Acoustic 700 and it was providing power, but no sound like on the JTV.....

Went back to the VDI I had been using initially and I was getting sound out of the JTV, but it was still frazzled in that the models were not working. However, the kicker was that with my VDI cable, the Monkey found the JTV again so I was able to reflash.

Granted it took 4 attempts for it to work and was coming up with an unknown MIDI error (CODE 800009000) each time and if I tried to do it again straight away, it would come up with error (CODE 8000900C) Midi Device Timeout and I had to restart my POD again for it to even attempt updating the JTV.

SOOOO fricken happy it's working!

Again adesmith, many thanks, you have saved me a lot of hassle and grief with such a simple solution that I had completely overlooked!

Try a generic ethernet cable (maybe you have a bad cable).

You may want to pull the battery out first and put it back in just to "reset" things... You never know...

What are the LEDs doing on the workbench USB adapter?

Figured it was worth a shot so gave it a try and although it didn't fix my problem, it certainly did something as instead of there just being one click when you plug the VDI in, the click was delayed till you release it along with another couple of clicks so it was doing something, just don't know what.

Even tried monkey again after that to see if it had at least allowed it to be shown there so I could reflash, but nope.

Gonna give up and call L6 UK in the morning.

but highly doubt the same works on the jtv's because the knobs are alot more multifunctional to begin with.

anyway just thought i'd mention it in case it helps jog a memory or 2 out there....

Yup had my line6 duds as well. 3 UX8's, 2 POD 3 Live and 1 DT25. I get to wondering if the store I buy from hates them.
