The XLR on the DT was good but I don't know what was going on. For example, is the cab and mic simulation always the same or is it based on the topology chosen? So if I'm using a clean sound I might want a 2x12 with a certain mic but the XLR out on the DT might be a mesa 4x12. Heck it could be anything, the manual never said what the XLR was doing so no way to know. Even know with the midi control it is not clear.

I sold the DT because of space (twins on the way) but I don't miss it all. I really just play at home with headphones most of the time.

I think I'm not alone in saying that Line 6 has just dropped the ball on explaining a lot of details that would really help users get/find the sounds they are looking for instead of just taking stabs in the dark.

I still love POD.

or...get a pair of H&K Red Box DIs and inject them on the 1/4 outs feeding your rig....Behringer makes a decent copy (ULTRA-G)...Then you can tweak your rig to sound sweet and house feed will have fixed cab emulation...Sorta like you have a fixed cab on your rig...A lot of fuss over dual mode...It's pretty obvious by now that there is not enough DSP to do it...HD500 is like the XTL was in that regard...If you want Line 6 Dual Mode, then you have to go with a DT amp...If you want stereo, you will need two amps....You can run 4 amps on the link if you like...If you like the HD500 and want to use it Dual Mode...Then you have to come up with the otherside of the Dual...Simple as that...

Thanks for the replies chaps, I was hoping to get the HD500 as that had the most sound configuration options, but it looks as though if I want an accurate sound representation on stage as well as through the PA then I'd need to run the HD500 into a DT25 and take the emulated signal out of the back of the amp ( although I'm currently running stereo and this solution would be mono ) as I don't really want to mic up the amp speakers.

Line 6 leaves a lot to the imagination about what is really going on with the XLR out on the DT series. There was never a good explaination of what was going on there.

Were you not happy with the XLR outputs on the DT amp?

300 and 400 can do it, the 500 cannot. This has been something the 500 owners have been complaining about (and rightfully so) since it came out. For me, this is why the best solution is a FRFR amp of some kind. I have 2 Mackie Thumps with the 15" speakers, they are good but a little woofie. Buying a good FRFR will run you at least $700 IMHO.

I had the DT-50 HD and a Line 6 cab but it was really just too much and takes up a lot of space. It sounded good and the XLR out sounded good, however, once again Line 6 leaves a lot to the imagination about what is really going on with the XLR out on the DT series. There was never a good explaination of what was going on there.

You can download the manuals from elsewhere on the Line6 (i.e., this) site.

It looks like you can do almost what you want, but not quite. My 400 has a "Dual" mode setting - I assume the 500 has the same thing. From the manual (this may not be the most recent, as I downloaded it a couple years ago):

DUAL Mode (POD HD400): This option offers more performance flexibility, routing the LIVE Mode signal to the left & right UNBALANCED outputs, and routing a great sounding mic’d amp tone to the left & right BALANCED outputs. This allows you to send the LIVE signal to a guitar amp, while simultaneously routing a mic’d cab signal to a mixer or recorder!

The 300 can do it. I think the 400 can too.

That's quite a basic flaw isn't it? I wonder if that could be fixed by a firmware upgrade or whether the I/O is hardwired in such a way on the motherboard that mean it's not possible to change.

No doubt the answer is buried in this forum somewhere.
