signal is signal and a buffer is a buffer....To use that box to up gain Balanced to Balanced you loop the unbalaanced outs to the unbalanced inputs...After all, all amplifiers are unbalanced...gains up to +15dbu on the XLRs...It's basically a stereo line amplifier...decent...not fantasitic...but likely good enough for monitoring...Likely it would be better to just use DIs on the the 1/4 outs and only convert balanced once...balanced line conversion does have a cost to bandwidth repsonse...

Interesitn box there. The lack of 1/4" I/O makes me thing it isnt really for guitar purposes. Also it doesnt seem to actually add any gain, just converts from unbalanced to balanced and vice-versa.

Assuming he used it with the PODs XLR outs - it would convert to 1/8" or RCA, and I dont know that the actual volume would be any higher.... I'd like to get one fo those to find out!

That would convert the XLRs to +4...It has trims as well...TubeMP is mono I think...

You need a mic preamp of some kind. The cheapest stand-alone pre that I know of thats actually worth a crap is te ART TubeMP. Bout 60 bux.

Having previously used the 1/4" outs from my HD500 directly into my Rokit 5 monitors, I then changed to XLRs so I can take advantage of the ground lift. Because I'm still going direct to my monitors, I've had to turn the monitors and the HD500 master volume both right up if I want a bit of noise, to compensate for the XLRs being at mic level.

My intention is to add a mixer/interface some time soon, the preamp of which will solve the problem, but in the meantime I'm looking for a way to boost the output levels of my presets without changing the existing settings, as everything is nicely balanced with everything else. So, for example, I could change the mixer settings, or add an EQ or compressor or the vintage preamp (or a combination of these things) - something that I can drop in to any/all presets which can easily be removed later.

What's the best way to do this without causing clipping, etc? Or is there another (cheap, as it's a short term fix) solution?
