P.S. no band slagging - everyone is free to leave their settings as long as it comes under the headings. I may make other posts for other types of music when I get more time.

Also, if needed, requests can be entered for anyone who is really struggling for their favourite artists sound.

Pod HD High Gain Tone Guide

I have made a rather detailed web guide to dialing in high gain tones on the Pod HD. I know it's a bit long, but it consists of numerous independent sections - you can probaby skip most of them) to getting the most out of your Pod HD, in regards to achieving high gain tones. I'm not sure if I want to expand on it any further or not, but I figure it's close enough to being done to go ahead and post. Here is the introduction:

"The purpose of this guide is to basically provide the details Line 6 failed to provide, mostly geared towards getting high gain tones with the Pod HD 500. It also applies to the Pod HD 300, 400, Desktop, and Pro; however, there may be a few things here and there impossible to do on the 300/400, or that don’t make sense on the Desktop.

It may seem like I’m treading a lot of ground that the manual covered, but while I’m covering the same topics, I’m providing details on these topics that were not clearly spelled out, which I’ve learned through personal experience or from other members on this forum.

I primarily focus on high gain tones, but I also like some nice clean, classic rock, and blues tones. Some of the artists I've sought to emulate include SRV, EVH, Satch, Vai, Petrucci, KSE, Periphery, Meshuggah, Metallica, Randy Rhodes, AC/DC, and Opeth. If you can dial in all those sounds, you should have no problem dialing in almost any rock tone you want. I use all of the traditional rock and high gain amps, with the exception of of the JTM-45."

It also includes sections on guitar setup/hardware, hooking up the Pod in various configurations, defeating clipping/harshness, and various other tips/troubleshooting.

Hopefully this helps some of you out. If you see any errors or disagreeable content please let me know.

I have made a webpage with sample clips and patches attempting to somewhat emualate some metal/shred artists. Some are a lot closer to the actual artist's tone than others. I really just wanted to use all the amps and demo some of my tone-building techniques referenced in the guide. I am currently in the process of finalizing my latest patches and recording clips for them. I try to keep the latest versions available for download as I go along. They should be finalized by the end of April 2012.

Bought A New Amp

I sold a bunch of equipment. I sold some Gibson pickups, my SV HD100, POD X3L, M13, and Shortboard. I bought the POD HD500 which I'm totally happy with. My plan was to get a DT50 Head to go with it. The longer I thought about it the more realized that I could get a decent all tube amp for the price of the DT50. I ultimately decided that I would get an all tube amp. I bought an Egnater Tourmaster 4100 head, which is on it's way. I've never owned an all tube amp before so I'm pretty excited. Having used solid state amp, modellers with a tube power amp and the SV in the past, I wanted an amp that was pretty versatile. I really liked the features of the Tourmaster, 4 channel with a vintage/modern voicing for each and the fact that I can run it anywhere from 100 watts to 10 watts. I'm planning on using the HD500 like I ran my M13 into 4CM'd into the SV for effects. Plus I can always bypass the preamp on the Egnater and just use the HD500 all the way. I do like having the HD500 there in the chain as backup rig so if the amp goes down I just use the HD500 to finish the show. I've been watch the Egnater's for a while now. The Renegade got my attention a few years ago and is what I was really interested in at first. The more I looked at the Tourmaster the more I liked it's features better. Although being able to run and mix 6L6's and EL34's at the same time as the Renegade does is a pretty unique feature that drew me to it to begin with. I may down the get a DT50 combo, but that'll be when I'm done with college next year,working, playing in a band again. I've had to put playing on hold until I get out of my Physical Therapy Assistant program. The fact that I'm not playing in a band right now also influence my choice. I'm mainly going to be playing at home, recording and working on my chops. Running the amp at low wattage will be helpful.

EXP-2 pedals, What works best and can take the punishment??

I need a pedal for volume only in exp-2. I have a new mission eng pedal but they are having problems with them. They are working with L6 on it but I cant wait. I have gigs. I have heard the EX-1 is not very stout. I heard the same thing about the boss/roland pedal. I dont have a lot of room on my board. The mission is basically a Crybaby shell....Same size anyway. What about Ernie Ball Jr? I looked but they are 25k and from what I understand, I need a 10K.

What works and is solid enough to withstand 60-80 gigs a season?

I've had a love/hate relationship with my HD500 for almost a year. I could rarely get a decent clean sound with my Strat and my Les Paul sounded horrible. I alost sold it several times. This all changed when I read on another forum that having input 2 sent to "SAME" would over drive the unit. I thought this may be why, even after the firmware update, I still got ugly crackly sounds on the cleans, I set all my patches to input1=guitar and input2=variax, ALL MY PATCHES SUDDENLY SOUNDED GREAT! I could even hear the noise level drop by just change the input to field in HD Edit.

After all this time of being ready to sell it and liking my Fender Mustang III MUCH better I am finally blown away with the HD500!

Does Line 6 know this is the default! It boggles my brain to think of all these people possibly hating this awesome unit because of this.

HD500 Set list

Posted here because file uploads are not enabled in the POD HD forum at present.

This posting is in response to a request in the POD HD Forum for a Bundle or Set List with all the HD500 amp models arranged in a logical order with a CLEAN, SLIGHTLY DIRTY, CRUNCH and SOLO setting for each amp model

Custom set list for HD500 covering all 16 FULL amp models with each model being used four times within a bank (A, B, C and D) starting with a CLEAN setting at position A through to a boosted SOLO setting at position D. Basic FX are included: Wah, Screamer, Analog Chorus, Digital Delay, Reverb and Volume pedal - same in every patch, however the higher gain amp models also have a Noise Gate added after the Screamer which is enabled in the SOLO (D) bank positions. I haven't spent too long adjusting EQ, but have spent a little time levelling the preset volumes. These presets are what they are, they are intended as building blocks for anyone who wants to tweak but with all the amp models laid out logically in a single set list, so hopefully some of the work needed to do this has been done for you. When uploading this Set List to an HD500, make sure you select the destination set list location in HD500 Edit first and that you back up any customised presets that you've made yourself and that you want to keep first as a Set List will overwrite an existing set list entirely when uploaded. When the new Set List appears in HD500 Edit you will need to select Send Set List in HD500 to send the settings permanently (until you decide to update or replace) to the HD500. These presets are basic and they don't pretend to be anything other than that. The amp model settings apart from Gain and Output Volume are at defaults as are all the FX used. In most cases all FX are defaulted to OFF except Volume and in the preset D slot, where SCREAMER will be ON and depending on the amp model NOISE GATE may be on as well.

I hope the file is of some use to HD500 users who want the amp models organised like this. If so, great, but if not just overwrite the settings in your HD500. It works fine on my HD500 and combo power amp input, but different amplification systems will possibly render the sounds slightly differently. Your mileage may vary.
