Pod X3 (bean) Turning on/off the Amp in all presets

I am wondering if there's a simple method to turn the "Amp" off in all presets. Here is the deal, when i play live, i like to plug the Pod X3s output into the input of my Mesa Mark III. I dont want the Amp modeling in te chain. I only want the effects, e.g. reverb, compressor, delay, etc. if i'm looking for overdrive I like the Mesa's overdrive. But when i am playing at home and/or recording I do want the modeling. Thus I need to turn on and off the Amp on all presets depending on the enviroment. Rather than going into Gearbox, handpicking each and every preset, Tone 1 and Tone 2, is there a simpler way? Thanks. Fred

Amp choice with X3L

So after a few years trying the X3L with a tube amp at church I've decided to join the rest of the world & use a non-tube amp. I just can't get it to sound right. It doesn't matter where I put the controls on the amp, it just sounds bad to my ears. Narrowed it down to 3:

Fender Mustang

Spyder

Vox Pathfinder

We're only talking about a stage monitor amp; the direct outs to the board are fine. X3L out to the amp is Live (combo front) mode, factory preset focus/high/low.

I have had a POD, XTLive, and I know use an X3 Live. I have two Spider Valve 212s and I have always used tube amps.

In the last two years I have been playing and learning to play direct through the PA system with headsets, which is pretty much getting to be the future.

Here's my problem: The processor with all custom sounds is fantastic through the PA and playing through the headphones on the X3.

I can no longer get sounds to satisfy me through my amp. I run through power out on the Spider Valve.

I am inquiring if there are any rigs out there like a mini PA system that is not to cumbersome, but brings out the sound that comes from the headphones or PA system?

I am looking for something to play at gigs that don't go direct, at home, and practice.

I have spent many hours on tones for years, and there is no way to get those tones to sound even half that good through and amp. I was satisfied with amp sounds until I started playing through PA, Recording direct, and through the headphones.

Does anyone have any ideas? I know I can't be the only one who has run into this.

I just uploaded my favorite dual tones to CustomTone. Two different themes here.

Crunch + Clean

Combining two amps, one higher gain, one less gain. I pan these hard left and right, and add a short delay to one side to give a really nice stereo separation. Works well in a live setting if you can get two channels on the mixer (tell the sound dude, c'mon, you give the keyboardist two channels!).

Two Mics

As noted in an earlier post, a studio engineer I ran into told me one of his "tricks" for mic'ing a guitar amp is to put two mics on the same amp: one on-axis, one off-axis, and pan both mic's to the center. That's not too hard to set up in a studio, a little more challenging in a live setting, but with a POD, it's a piece of cake. So what I did is took some of my favorite amp models, and create a dual tone that does just that. Each of these tones have two amps, set up the same way, except one is mic'd on-axis, one is mic'd off axis.

Great use for Dual Tones

I was recently at an event that featured Peter Denenberg (produced the Spin Doctors) talking about recording techniques. One of his favorite tricks is to put two SM57s on a guitar amp--one on-axis, one off axis, both mixed to the center. Immediately I thought, hey I can do that with my X3 Live. This is an easy way to give your amp models a fuller sound. Just duplicate the settings, except have one mic on-axis, one mic off-axis.

X3L outside- sun overrides the Vol Pedal

Today I had an outside gig & the vol was (way) up even in heel down pos. Noticed that when I blocked the sun over the pedal the vol went down. Never had this problem at church or at gigs.

Anyone else have this? I didn't know the mechanical part of the ex pedal was optical; I guess this is normal...??

Using Pod X3 live/pro in effect loop on external guitar amp

I am planning to buy a Line 6 pod X3 PRO. My main purpose is to use it in my home studio. Anyway I have a great amp (Mesa Boogie mark III- about 23 years old) wich I use when playing live and I also need a new effects processor for that purpose.

For live playing I have been using a rack mounted effect processor (Zoom) together with a Mesa Boogie Midi Matrix which I loop through the "effects send/return-loop" on my Mesa Boogie. This loop is placed after the Mesa pre amp. Now I am wondering if anyone has experience in using the Pod X3 in a "post-preamp loop". I would then use only the effects in the Pod and turn off all the Preamp and Amp-simulating options. It would be practical for me to be able to use the Pod X3 in both studio work and live playing. I have not been able to find any information about how to set up the Pod as a sole effect processor together with an amp if you don`t want to place the Pod in front of the preamp (I want to use the Mesa tube-preamp for distortion)

If it is not recomendable to use the Pod on the "effects loop" after the preamp I will propably settle for the Pod X3 for my studioworking, and not go for the substantially more expensive Pod X3 PRO which would fit nicely into my rack. I therefore hope that someone can help me out on this before I buy the Pod.

Gearbox question

Hey everyone, I'm not really new to L6 been using an X3L for bout a year now but I am extremely green at using it with my computer. I just recentely updated it and downloaded gearbox. When I connect it to my laptop gearbox sees it, brings my patches up but I get no sound.I turn on the metronome and I can see it registering on the little meter in my sound settings but no sound, nothing is muted, all the volumes are up. What am I missing here? Im running Windows 7 incase it matters. Thank you in advance.
